Children's novel about Mary Anning

I read a novel about Mary Anning when I was 9 (early 80s).

Does anyone know what it could be?

I have seen 'The Dragon in the Cliff' by Sheila Cole but this was published in the 90s

TIA

The Fossil Girl?

Thanks, but I don't think so. I don't remember any pictures so I am sure it wasn't a graphic novel. There might have been a few black and white sketches.

If it's the same one I read there were definitely black and white sketches. Can't remember what it was called though. Chances are it was something like the Fossil Girl but the book has been re-printed since we read it. It might be hard to get a copy of the version you/we read if that's the case.

I've just had a thought - the book I read, I think it was based on a more modern girl who read the story of Mary Anning and decided to go looking for fossils herself as a result - perhaps completely different from the one you read after all!

Is it "Mary Anning's Treasure" ? I think I still have this book, so will have a dig around.

I can't find it listed anywhere though, so maybe out of print.

I think it had an orange cover, with some line drawings inside.

here is an ebay listing for it but it doesn't have much detail for you to be able to ID it as the right book.

thumbwitch · 05/03/2010 07:26

and here it is on amazon but still not enough detail? was publ. 1976 though...

Found my copy - published by Penguin 1976 and cost 35p

It is a novel rather than a graphic, and does have little line drawings scattered around.

It's by Helen Bush. And it is orange

Orange cover rings a bell. Thanks all.

Now, who wants to re-read it for me and tell me if my DCs would enjoy it?
