Recommendations for 16yo girl

My niece loved the 'Twilight' series which I bought her last year.

I want to get her a new book for half term as she'll be staying with us and while my DS is watching 'Dinosaur King' it would be nice for her to have a book to escape into!

Any recommendations?

My 16yo liked the Twilight series, but loved the the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, which is has vampires and werewolves etc, but is 'so much better written' says DD.

There is also the Hunter Games books by Suzanne Collins, which doesn't have vampires, but she loved it

Brilliant - will search on Amazon for those now! Thanks so much for replying. My niece is a lovely girl who deserves spoiling at every opportunity

Glad to help

Yes definitely Mortal Instruments and Hunger Games, both series are very good; Hunger Games is quite extraordinary!
You could also look at Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr (nasty fairies), Marked by PC and Kristin Cast (more vampires), A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray (takes place in a Victorian boarding school) and one that is just out or coming out soon that I really enjoyed: Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl (see here)

Ooh, thank you librarymice! Now I have a book to buy her for this half term and one or two for Easter holidays, and maybe (with sequels) enough to last when she's here for the summer too! Really appreciate the tips, would never have found these on my own.

That's no problem. I a secondary school librarian and I enjoy the genre myself so more than happy to help. I thought of another one in fact: Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater!
