What to read after Wimpy Kid?

My son (7) is reading his wasy through all the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. He is an able reader but quite reluctant (extremely frustrating for his librarian mother :0 ) and likes books to be heavily illustrated; he also loved the Ottoline books but unfortunely there is still not sign of a third one . I tried him on Hugo Pepper but he said it was too long (we get that a lot). Any suggestions on similar books? I am going to get him some Horrible Histories books but would like him to read some fiction too. Any help appreciated!

I tried to get my children to read Le Petit Nicholas after DOAWK, but it didnt take.

Assume he has read Horrid Henry?

Asterix.

Le Petit Nicolas would be perfect but I am French and I'd rather he read them in French, eventually. I don't think the format they have published the books in here help. The books are beautiful but not very child-friendly!
He is not keen on HH, or Captain Underpants, or Mr Gum (but I might try to encourage that again). He is very picky unfortunately

So are my children. I just buy them comics now, at least they are reading something!

My 7 yo ds is finishing the latest Mr Gum book and I was going to try him on Wimpy Kid next as he loves humour more that action. He is a reluctant though able reader as well and is easily put off by too much print .

Astrosaurs are good if he likes space, humour and dinosaurs!

DS(7), who LOVES DOAWK, is hovering over my shoulder and thinks that your DS might enjoy Antony Horowitz's Diamond Brothers'Detective Agency series.
