Please can you recommend a cook book for my son's 7th birthday?

He already makes a mean omelette and is keen to expand his repertoire!

If it is slightly "boyish" (pictures of monsters, etc) that would be ideal as he is (unfortunately) very gender-aware (a pink cover would see it rejected). But I'd love to hear about any good book. Simpler recipes better, for obvious reasons.

thank you.

How about the 'Cookbook for Boys' published by Usborne? I haven't read this one but have just bought Usborne's 'Christmas Baking for Children' - it's excellent.

'Easy Peasy' by Mary Contini is very good...it's out of print, but available second-hand.

I've got some of the Usborne cookery school books and the recipes are very good. I think the covers are primary colours so 'unisex'.

Barefoot Books have just brought out a lovely box of cookery cards, with a good mix of sweet and savoury and HEALTHY!! So many kids cookery books seem to do buns, biscuits and cakes, and not much else (rant).

Anyway, ours arrived yesterday from Amazon, and looks great, and will be going in with the Christmas pressies.

My 7 year old ds likes Dorling Kindersley's Children's Cookbook. Lots of easy things that are good to eat.

Bearing in mind what I have just posted on another thread, I read virtually the whole Railway Series aged 7 and enjoyed them immensely (my teacher brought them in for me about the time the Ringo Starr narrated television series began).

They are genuinely great books for boys, and about as close to the HIT Entertainment marketing travesty one can see on Channel 5, as latter day Disney Winnie the Pooh is to the stories of A A Milne.
