Anyone a fan of molesworth? Double chiz if not

I'd love to hear from anyone else who loves the molesworth books (a mad spoof of 1940s boarding school etiquette).

They were narrated by nigel molesworth and described his school (St Custards), his dere little brother molesworth 2, his grate friend peason and other weeds and wets eg fotherington tomas (hello birds, hello sky) and grabber (winner of the mrs joyful prize for rafia work).

Will our dere little chaps (and girls) ever be ready for these books? I seem to remember reading them in my teens, is that the right age?

If no one else loves these books, I will utterly tough them up and diskard them.

My only critcism is that they totally ruined the Jennings books for me. I thought these were hilarious as a pre-teen but once i discovered molesworth, it was all over.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 30/03/2009 21:50

theyoungvisiter · 30/03/2009 21:57

oh me me me!

All human knowledge can be found in teh Molesworth books viz:

There is only one thing in criket and that is the STRATE BAT. Keep yore bat strate boy, sa the master and all will be right in life as in criket.

seeker · 30/03/2009 21:58

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 30/03/2009 22:05

They need reeducating pointydog.
What do they like?

theyoungvisiter · 30/03/2009 22:06

"what is a watershed?" "a tool shed is where you keep tools a wood shed is where you keep wood a watershed is where you keep water. Don't waste my time"

theyoungvisiter · 30/03/2009 22:07

don't reeducate them POinty - they are clearly past saving. if some people can't appreciate true genius when it's presented to them on a silver salver then they are fules and wets and molesworth 2 will zap them with a trillion rays from his proton gun.

Katisha · 30/03/2009 22:09

Set Wandsworth the skool dog on them.

He take a bullseye and pater lite his pipe. The matter is closed

solidgoldbrass · 30/03/2009 22:10

I remember suddenly realising that a work colleague couldn't be quite the desperately-cool condescending wanker he appeared to be when he said to someone else 'As any fule kno' (you could hear the misspellings beautifully) got an utter blank look in reply and then looked gratified when I hooted with glee.

pointydog · 30/03/2009 22:12

they will never like molewsoeth. It was clear as day.

solidgoldbrass · 30/03/2009 22:16

Oops have just reread the OP's name. Hello Miss Silver! Is there a thread on your books?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 30/03/2009 22:23

Was going to link to the Migel Molesworth appreciation thread (which I started, ahem ahem) but someone got there first, chiz chiz.

MissM · 31/03/2009 08:42

As I opened the blinds in DS's room this morning at 5.45am (chiz) I cried 'Hello clouds, hello sky' in a vain attempt to cheer my sleep-deprived self up. It worked.

MargaretMountford · 31/03/2009 09:51

!

SweetEm · 07/04/2009 20:58

Every time I have to write a thank you letter on behalf of dcs I want to send a Molesworth Self-Adjusting Thank-You Letter. After all, it would "cut out hours of toil pen biting wear on elbows blotches and staring out of windows".

And did reading Molesworth make anyone else grow up thinking that the correct abbreviation of etcetera was "ect" or was that just me?

pasturesnew · 24/08/2009 17:41

I love Mumsnet, I was just thinking of this in relation to a thread on thank you cards and googled the Molesworth letter and it led me straight back here

kathyis6incheshigh · 24/08/2009 17:46

DH and I found St Custards a couple of years ago when we were driving in the country - unfortunately it had just closed down
I posted about it on here and someome posted 'I here Porridge Court is still open chiz chiz'.

It has been done up as a country house again and is being advertised in all the property sections of newspapers - every time I see it now I think of Molesworth and smile.

pasturesnew · 24/08/2009 17:59

I love that my primary school really was a St Custards (Cuthberts) and DH and I often can't find things for tofe chiz and eat strubres and cream ...

kathyis6incheshigh · 24/08/2009 18:02

I can't find my copy of Molesworth now, chiz chiz

My favourite bit is Armand in the French text books.

'Everyone kno that Armand is a wet becos he wear a striped shirt and sissy straw hat....

Aha! You think, Papa is not so stupid, he will feed Armand to the loups....' etc.
