DS wants to go dressed up as Alex Rider, but I've only ever seen silhouettes of him!

Any ideas?

I was thinking jeans + black bomber jacket thingie + miscellaneous spy gadgets

Yes, I imagine him as all in black with spy gadgets. Do you have spy gadgets?

Hmm - not sure - think we could probably rustle something up with wristwatch compasses etc...

Perhaps sunglasses.... or am I disappearing off into Men In Black territory?

It could be worse... DS2's friend wants to go as one of the Mr Men

Ds1 is going as Alex Rider in jeans, a black t-shirt, denim jacket and black converse. He insists that Alex Rider wears black converse which is fortunate because they are the only shoes ds1 has. He said something about a wristband as well.

isnt there a film with alex ride? is it stormbreaker, you could look at that, but i think just dressed kind of normally, jeans tshirt is what he wore in the film.
ds1 is still at school so cant ask him , he loves alex rider

Can anyone tell me what the books are like - my 7 year old wants them but they say 9 - 14 on the book people website so I wasnt sure if they would be too old for him. He is a good reader but doesnt like things that are too scary. Thanks.

NormaSnorks · 06/03/2009 13:38

It depends on your DS really, but I might say that 7 is a bit young. The one DS (age 9) is currently reading has some descriptions of a bull fight in it which could upset a child with a more vivid imagination, also there is a fair amount of implied violence I think (guns & knives).

Has he tried books like Jack Stalwart (which are aimed at a younger audience)?

Thanks for that NormaSnorks - I have ordered him the Jack Stalwart ones but he had one in a party bag and read it that afternoon so I dont think they will last him very long. So, was looking for something a bit harder but it sounds like the Jack Rider ones might be a bit scary for him. He likes Enid Blyton mystery ones and the Adventure series but it does have the downside of making him say things like feeling a touch squiffy and back in a jiff!

Lucy Daniels (of the Animal Ark books) does a Safari Summer series which is about a boy in Tanzania who has adventures involving elephant poachers & the like, my DD (6 going on 7) likes them but they look like they are written to appeal to boys as well as girls, they are also a decent length (longer than Animal Ark). DD is a big fan of the EB Mystery & Adventure books too.

They sound good and the sort of thing he would like - will look them up. Thanks.
