What is the point of this story?

You started a thread, Pennies. Does everyone have to agree with you?

Pennies · 29/01/2009 20:23

bran - god I LOVE a good poo / fart joke but I can't see how this would be a toilet training tool tho?

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 29/01/2009 20:25

Right, I'm away to find a good book and my toilet bed.

Pennies · 29/01/2009 20:27

Course they don't Desi, that's the beauty of MN. You may well disagree with me but do it with some style and don't question my humour levels in a caustic and disparaging way whilst you're at it.

Oh, and I didn't post in AIBU, did I.

Nuff said.

I may have been disparaging, but I was not caustic. I save that for the watershed.

You started a thread asking the point of the story. You then gave me a mental image of a couple of grim faced children who did not find it amusing. And then you did that face when describing your local library and its choice of literature.

Sorry, mate, but on this particular thread, you don't sound like a barrel of laughs to me.

Pennies · 29/01/2009 20:44

No. Desi, read my post and you'll see it's not a local library but preschool library. I'm at why a shit on me and I'll shit on you (whether it is literally as in this story, or metaphorically as lesson so often are in childrens tales) is a good story for a school to have to kids. Is that such a bizarre concept?

I'm very happy to debate whys and wherefores on this with you but please don't lower it to random and presumptive insults because that's just not particularly helpful or clever.

God, my kids LOVE this one. In our home it's funny. I do like the illustrations as well. They also like the Taro Gomi book about animals poo-ing.

Don't know quite why you've got the hump with Desi for not agreeing with you though... odd.

Miyazaki · 29/01/2009 20:53

It's the triumph of the underdog.

hee hee

Pennies · 29/01/2009 20:55

Miyazak - not got the hump. It's just that there are ways and ways...

Shite joke tho .

We shall agree to disagree, Pennies, on this particular issue.

I'm sure we'll find some common ground elsewhere.

Desiderata · 29/01/2009 21:02

Indeed! I spent the formative years of my life in said country, which may explain a lot!

Miyazaki · 29/01/2009 21:03

And it was sent to the dc by german friends...

NotQuiteCockney · 29/01/2009 21:04

I love this book.

But then I have a good collection of poo books (Everybody Poops, Le Grand Voyage de M. Caca, Walter the Farting Dog, Poo: a Natural History).

LostGirl · 29/01/2009 21:04

I have no link to Germany whatsoever and I love it, what's my excuse???

NotQuiteCockney · 29/01/2009 21:05

Hmmm, tomorrow I must start a thread of 'what children's books do you hate reading'. Too tired now.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/01/2009 21:05

I have no real link to Germany either, I just think poo is funny.

Amanda1977 · 14/04/2009 22:57

You can even get a toy mole with poo on his head to accompany the story!

5Foot5 · 21/04/2009 12:58

We loved this story when DD was little and I have since bought the book for nephews and nieces.

Still boggling at the thought of a stage version.

As to which books you found boring to read to infants I would have to include Spot books and most definitely everything ever written about the wretched Topsy and Tim. DD loved T&T but we thought them dull, dull, dull!

pmsl at "don't sit on a wall if you're an egg"

Move over Aesop

theadventuresofcyril · 04/09/2018 17:46
