Joy oh joy, I still have my Puffin badge...it's only 37 years old!

ramonaquimby · 29/01/2009 18:33

omg - 6 magazines for £45? There is a shocking lack of quality magazines for young children (some fab ones in Canada - Chickadee, Owl, etc) in the UK, but I won't be buying at that price

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/01/2009 18:36

Sniffup !
I had the special plastic folder where I kept my copies !

Thank goodness you reminded me! I'm supposed to be getting dd3 this for her birthday. Eeek! It's so annoying because it was £38 up to 31st Dec and because I've got a bad memory I've now got to fork out an extra £7.

Ramona it's 6 books and 6 magazines

Miggsie · 29/01/2009 18:38

...at last a magazine for DD that is not pink, filled with ghastly pictures of kittens and princesses and not covered with TV tie in characters...

ramonaquimby · 29/01/2009 18:42

even Nat Geo for Kids is heavily adorned with advertising.

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/01/2009 18:45

ds used to get the Dr Who one which was pretty poor in my opinion - not much content at all. The RSPB ones are good. Think he might just be getting too old for Puffin Club

Sounds interesting. Didn't have it where I'm from. What sort of books would they be? Anything to interest an 8 year old who's into Roald Dahl atm?

dalek · 29/01/2009 18:47

Help me lease - what age is it suitable for? I've never even heard of puffin post

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/01/2009 18:52

8-12 yrs I think ...it used to be the magazine of the Puffin Club in the 70s - was fabulous, lots of great writers in it, quite a cult following.

The £45 is steep but it does include six books...

McBolshy · 29/01/2009 19:07

The subscription also covers use of the website which is great. The talk boards seem very good. My dd has started some threads about authors she likes and is really enjoying the chat.

MollieO · 31/01/2009 23:11

For me the Q&A with Madonna is a complete turn off, eg 'What is your favourite thing about being an author' = 'Having been number one on the New York Times bestseller list'. Not the usual about sharing a story with children etc. Just how much money she earns! Also don't fancy explaining the use of slang to my ds, as in 'He's a bit bummed out...'. Ugh

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/02/2009 08:53

gasp !! that would never have been in the old Puffin Post
