PLEASE can anyone help me remember a childhood book, probably an annual from the 70s?

Christmas has brought on a huge nostalgia trip having found loads of my old childhood books but one favourite is missing. It is driving me mad trying to remember its name. I think it was an annual and I remember my favourite stories being about a little girl who had a flower on the pocket of her dress which gave her a wish when she touched it. Also there was a story about a little girl getting a puppy for her birthday - it was in a box all tied with ribbons. Finally I remember lots of pictures including one where she goes to ballet and there are all sorts of coloured tutus. Can anyone help my 'little grey cells' have a break?

Shitemum · 19/12/2008 09:52

Mandy? 1978 issue maybe?

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 19/12/2008 09:55

Twinkle? Playhour?

Shitemum · 19/12/2008 10:02

Judy?

TisTheSeasonToBeSolo · 19/12/2008 10:03

Sally?

Twinkle.

the little girl had three wishes, but she always blew it and made a fourth wish and all her wishes disappeared. I have a vague idea she was called Little Mo, but I might be wrong.

But the annual you are thinking of is definitely Twinkle.

a few different years for sale here

I had a feeling it might have been Twinkle but I bought a 1976 one on the off chance but didn't find those remembered stories. I think I'll have to get every single one between 70 and 80! Little Mo rings a very vague bell too - thank you.

Does anyone remember, Beril the Peril (sp)

TisTheSeasonToBeSolo · 19/12/2008 12:01

Oh yes! Beryl the Peril. Ha!

LittleMonkeysMummysAXmasFairy · 19/12/2008 12:05

Ha!! That was what all my family called me when I was a child (that and Minnie the Minx??)

Note to self - apologise to parents for being such a little terror when I as a child

It was Twinkle I think and Little Mo definately rings a bell.My Grandma made me a replica of the dress and I loved it.Ithink it would have been earlier than 76 probably more like 70 (showing my age!)

It's ringing a vague bell with me too. But more vivid are memories of "The 4 Marys" in the Bunty, and those really creepy stories (In the Judy???) where people had strange red eyes that gave me nightmares for years- one was about ivy that came to life (had faces in the leaves, with trademark evil eyes!) and made families who lived in the house "disappear" (but faces appeared all evil-like in ivy, of course!!) Would still never ever live in a house covered in ivy

Sorry- had to get that out

My mum has all of them in her "little bedroom" where dd sleeps when she goes there. She has from 1970 to 1977. Dd reads them everytime she stays and loves them.
She's nearly 12

I only remember Nurse Nancy from Twinkle.

I loved the 4 Marys too.

In our house you started on Twinkle then moved onto Judy and/or Mandy, then Bunty, then finally - as you reached womanhood - Jackie and Blue Jeans (with the odd copy of Fab 208 and Look-In thrown in).

My brother went from the Beano to Buzz (and maybe Topper??) to Roy of the Rovers and then Shoot.

Comics were great then.
