Things to do book - month by month from 1960s/early 70s - does anyone know the author/title?

I have fond memories of a super book which gave lovely ideas of things to do at home and in the garden, month by month. From what I can remember, the paperback's front cover was pinkish and maybe had a white oval in the middle, and had pencil drawings of children playing. I have searched the Internet and so far no success. Can you remember this book? Many thanks.

oh yes, I know exactly what you mean. The one that had special cosy things to do for February, because that's when flu/winter colds are commonest, so you may well be in bed. Like making a mouse puppet using a hanky, and (my favourite) using the ironwork of the head & foot of your bed (like, who had one of those, outside a hospital, even in 1967?) to make a model-aircraft-pulley-thingy.

Anyway, I know where one is (in a holiday house in Cornwall) but am not there can't help right now with its name. However, there are various likely-sounding things on Abebooks, under "Puffin" "Things to Do"

It is called "Something to do"

my mum gave away my childhood copy but i managed to find one on ebay. good luck!

Still can't manage to make the hankerchief mouse tho'.

I remember it - in fact it's probably still among my mum's books at Dad's house. I loved it!

It was by 'Septima' - here

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I have ordered one via Amazon but thanks for the info re Abe books.

I am so pleased to find a childhood favourite book. I have been looking in charity shops, on the Internet but with no luck and then I had an eureka moment to contact you all, hoping Mumsnet would help me - and yes! - so thank you heaps! Can Mumsnet do it, yes it can! Being influenced by Bob The Builder on tv now!

I am now remenescing and now will search for a hardback book on wildlife, slightly bigger than A5 but less than A4, with pictures of a frog and a robin (I think!) on the front cover - any ideas?! Again from early 70s or late 60s. I loved that book!

Having fond memories of certain books makes me realise I should check with my little ones before I zip off to the charity shop with some of theirs.

You have made a baby boomer very happy so thank you!

Just reviving this.

There is a companion book called "Something to Make" which I have on my bookshelf along with "Something to do".

I love my big bookshelf of yellowing Puffin books. Even more so after mil and sil asked why I cluttered the place up with "all those old books". We were not meant to inhabit the same planet.

Bink · 24/11/2008 20:22

Oh me too.
We went to a wedding once, & the children's crechy bit was in an annexe of someone's house where they'd stashed shelves & shelves of 60s/70s Puffins (and those other ones we weren't really meant to spend our pocket money on, you know, Armada & especially Fontana) - I found that dd needed a tremendous amount of frequent checking on. (Though I can't recall whether she was actually in the creche or not.)

My mum has spotted that Puffin Post is being revived - guess what dd is getting for Christmas.

fircone · 25/11/2008 12:22

£38 though? Seems a bit steep. My mum enrolled me in the Puffin Club in 1970-something. I can't remember anything about it, but I did get a Puffin annual. I wonder what happened to that...
