Inspire me: board books for a 6 month old?

Any recommendations? Not the "Thats not my..." would rather have something rhyming and with lovely pictures.

The best book I have ever come across for babies and toddlers is Bear on A Bike. Not sure who it is by, but it is publshed by Barefoot Books. It is the most lovely rhyme and beautifully illustrated. There are other Bear books in the series (we have Bear Goes to Town) but this is by far the best in my opinion. Anything at all by Satoshi Kitamura. DS and I loved Cat is Sleepy and Duck is Dirty in particular

And of course - Hairy McLairy (I'd say the first one only at this point).

Avoid big collections of stories at all costs - much cheaper, but you end up having to read six stories at a go, all identical - six different books is a lot more bearable.

I got I Like it When, by Mary Murphy in DS's bookstart pack six years ago, and he loved it, and now DD 14 mo is loving it too. I used to sing along and do actions with it.

Calm Down Boris is also good. His beak is a hairy glove which you can tickle them with. Has both my DCs in fits of giggles.

mine hates the 'thats not my..' books. Says 'No' and throws them off the sofa (to my absolute delight, though didn't teach her that though, really!)

I second 'I like it when'.

DS LOVED it. He used to do all the signs as we read it. He is almost 3 and still loves it, still does the signs and often reads it to me (or his 1 yr old friend)

Also, anything by Sandra Boynton, especially Doggies

The Amazing Baby books are quite good- much better than the blardy 'thats not my...' one too- we liked Hide and Seek -in fact she still loves it now at 2.6!

babies are obsessed by babies so both of mine loved looking at - babies!

and both of mine loved 'lets go to bed' - which is charming. good for when they're learning to talk - dd1 used to shout 'i'm ready'. illustrations are lovely.

and if you want to be baaaaad there is a dvd called babies love babies which mine adore (still aged almost a year and coming up to three). it's not sophisticated (in any way). it's just babies doing baby things but the music isn't too annoying and they do love it! amazon only has second hand vhs i think we bought ours from 'babies love babies' website but out of time so will leave you with that thought.

My DS loves his set of 4 first mr men books. The pictures are great and really capture his attention (only 4 months). Also likes his little board books on Winnie the Pooh and Thomas the Tank Engine as they are not too heavy to hold.

there are 4 fab MOG books, by Judith Kerr, in small board format. Then progress to the other Mog books, they are wonderful. Except the last,when Mog dies it made my dcs cry (they were old enough not to!)

I was just going to suggest the 'baby Mog' books, too. We have Mog and Me, and Mog's Family of Cats - the first is probably better for younger babies. (I didn't realise there were four of them, TLK!)

Also the Sasha and Olly books - DD loved Up and Away from an early age.
