Aye probably

Hulababy · 30/07/2008 18:06

moondog - so will DD. She loves reading and reads every day, through hoice and for enjoyment. But she is 6y, she loves stickers - and the library challenge incorporates both!

popsycal · 30/07/2008 18:06

ds1 is doing it

popsycal · 30/07/2008 18:09

reafd properly nowitis team read he is doing

popsycal · 30/07/2008 18:12

oh its the same thing

ds1 only got a naff pen for his bronze - no sdtickers

Slouchy · 30/07/2008 18:16

We are, at least dd1 is (dd2 is book crawling, too little for the challenge)
She was all fired up when we went to lib on MOnday, since then her books have languished on shelf. Will have to kick her up the arse encourage her to get going.

Hulababy · 30/07/2008 20:07

We got the naff pen too. He should have got a sheet with 3 stickers on too Popsy - a bronze medal sticker, and two stickers to go on the Team Read poster you get when starting.

You can track your progress on the Team read website too. DD just logged in and found it all this afternoon.

DD is doing the reading challenge- she is so keen on getting a medal, whether it be a paper one or a real one! She is only 3 though but the librarians know her so they let her do it. They said though we could only count the chapter books she read out aloud....grrr to them!
I have set my rules for DD- only one Rainbow Fairy book and one Lucy Daniels book, listening to anymore of them being read out loud is mind numbing.

popsycal · 31/07/2008 20:26

hula - he got none of that
will ask next time

So, thanks to this reminder, ds (9) & dd (7) now signed up.

I've found them a stash of likely books - thought it might be worth us all posting ideas, so's to help with picking from library stock (which can be a bit variable)?

We have some usual suspects, like Joan Aiken, Philippa Pearce, Enid Blyton, Cressida Cowell, Terry Deary and a couple of the "Dead Famous" biography things; but also some new to me:

  • Julia Jarman book about girl with cat that takes her travelling through time to solve mysteries
  • Geoffrey McSkimming (more time travel & historical mysteries, with a boy-y slant (ie not pet-focussed) this time)
  • fantasy-adventure set underneath Manhattan, by Suzanne Collins

My younger three DC are doing it. They enjoy it every year and read anyway so it's just giving them a little recognition for doing something they already enjoy. DD2-6 has read four so far.
