Hi all,

My DC has just finished the Read to the Beat 2026 National Summer Reading Challenge! I'm so proud of her!

It's been quite tough for her, transitioning into big school and being in a classroom with strangers she doesn't know, but she's been so brave and handled things really well!

She's got a certificate, bookmarks, her own magazine, a badge and character cards to keep.

You can see which 6 books she's read over the month to achieve this.

Also pictured are what books we're reading now: My partner and I took the first one (as Bella has 2 mums), Put Your Records On (a little black girl magic from my R'n'B era), and Bella loves kittens and unicorns.

Is your child doing the Summer Reading Challenge? If so, how are they getting on? If not, why not? Go to your local library and join up today!

Several people have pointed out the ad nature of it.

So what if it is?
The library summer reading challenge is free so if someone wants to promote it then why not.

I already said it’s not a big deal, but if she was advertising it she could have done with mentioning it’s a free library challenge early on

We’re going to the library tomorrow (if I’m not still dying of flu… it has to end at some point right??) so will look out for it as my 5 year old loves a challenge (and prizes lol).

@SupportiveMum202 well done to your little girl 🙂
Every summer for the last few years I have challenged myself to read 6 books over the holidays - but never seem to manage to do it. We are on week 3 of the holidays and I still haven't finished a book.
Perhaps libraries need to give us grown ups stickers and bookmarks too.

Most people with children know what the "Summer Reading Challenge" is though.... don't they?

No idea, do you know most people? I didn’t know it was a free library challenge until the end of her post. But I don’t live near a library and we have a lot of books, also share books within friend groups so we haven’t visited the library in years although we read a lot. Figured this was just a bit of a poorly done ad, as I said.

It's a great scheme, mine did it all through primary school.

Have you considered a role in children's tv presenting OP? You write like they talk.

Yep telling people to shut up and get off mumsnet is very children’s tv 😅

Do you have primary school age children though?
The scheme is often promoted via schools.

Yes I do! And no our school doesn’t promote this

That's a shame.
Although you did say you don't have a nearby library so maybe that's why they don't.
The scheme has been around since 1999 so it's a surprise you've never heard of it before.
