My boy has just finished Dogman series. We’ve also done all of the Diary of a Wimpy kid & Horrid Henry. he loved all 3 but is ready to move on to the next level.

Any recommendations on a next good book series for him?

I see David Walliams books everywhere - are they any good?

My almost 8yo DS loves the Wimpy Kid books and reads them over and over. He's read some Dogman and other books in that style so maybe has similar taste to your boy. He reads loads of David Williams, but I can't comment on whether they're any good as I haven't read them, but I understand a lot of mumsnetters think they're terrible.

Space Band by Tom Fletcher is one of his faves, he enjoyed The Creakers and Danger Gang too. Easy to read, silly, but more words on the page if that's what you're after.

He's been getting into the Tom Gates books by Liz Pichon.

He giggles like mad at the Storey Treehouse books. They're a fast, easy read with lots of cartoony images.

More recently the My Brother is a Superhero Series by David Solomon. More dense but he loved the two he's read so far and got through them quickly.

I hate David Walliams books - bad writing, plot, classist, sexist, sizeist, ableist - but many kids love them.

My DS loved all those you listed. For easy reads mine devoured a couple years prior (6-7) all the 13 Storey Treehouses, then Jeremy Strong, and now loves all Pamela Butchart. He enjoyed Bunny va Monkey comics but I didn’t like those!

slightly harder but super engaging (we sometimes share the reading) - Roald Dahl, Lemony Snickett, Holes, Wonder, Boy at the back of the class, brand new boy.

Oh yes and all Tom Fletcher - Space Band, Danger Gang, creakers, Christmasaurus.

9 year old now, but Horrible Histories, Greek and Roman Myths, Sherlock Holmes are favourites

Yes another vote for 13 story treehouse books, my son who found reading boring read through all of these without complaint. He's now on diary of a wimpy kid. I think boys in particular need books that are a bit humorous to keep them engaged.
