would she like it? or would you and she prefer £7 worth of pink crap instead?

genuine question as I am about to buy this book for dd2s friends birthday party and wondering whether I should get something more plastic?

how old? i loved this book when little.

stealthsquiggle · 23/06/2008 10:37

Go for it - DS has has some lovely books as presents from classmates and he values them more than plastic tat, as do I!

stealthsquiggle · 23/06/2008 10:37

has had

MissusH · 23/06/2008 10:37

My dd had this as a gift last year when she was 5 - she loved it and still asks me to read it now (and has a fair go herself!!)

Enid · 23/06/2008 10:38

it will be her 6th birthday

My dd loves getting books

She loves plastic tat too and ends up with plenty but she doesn't love it to the exclusion of everything else.

As a parent I would far rather dd got a lovely book than yet more pink shite

Your dd's friend will love the book and your dd's friend's Mum will be eternally grateful that you have taste

mazzystar · 23/06/2008 10:40

Buy it - I am sure there will be plenty of compensatory pink crap from other people, so child will not feel deprived.

cazzybabs · 23/06/2008 10:41

well I gave it someone...

but then I love love love books...she get plastic tat from all of the other classmates.

BagelBird · 23/06/2008 10:41

Sounds a great choice if they do not already own it. Why don?t you have a quiet word with the child?s mum to check that they have not already got this one? It is a lovely book but quite well known so I would check first. Unless I know the child well, I always ask the parent for a "hint" or to check I am on the right lines.

Enid · 23/06/2008 10:42

I know dd2 will be pleased to give it to her

Do it. Do it. Do it.
If it is the one I am thinking of, it is a lovely book - DD2 had it for Christmas.

I much prefer books as gifts.

NigellaTheOriginal · 23/06/2008 11:42

good choice. i give clessic books to all the DDs mates as presents. too much pink plastic floats around anyway.

TooTicky · 23/06/2008 11:47

Much better than a lump of plastic!

barnstaple · 23/06/2008 11:49

I'd want the book. Parents can buy pink crap if they want their dd to have it.

LullyOfShallot · 23/06/2008 11:52

Wonderful choice
I'd prefer a book everytime
