Anyone remember the 'choose your own adventure' books?

When I was at Primary school (quite a few years ago) I remember reading a whole set of books that were 'choose your own adventure'. You would read a page and then get to choose what happened next. Are they still available?

My brother had some early reader ones too that were a little less complicated. I wonder if these are still around too.

Many thanks

Hulababy · 13/06/2008 21:48

I remember these to; had loads of them. Not seen them abot in a long time.

avenanap · 13/06/2008 21:48

I'm writing some, they are all different about....... well, I wouldn't want to give the plots away . I have not found a publisher yet (I have not finished the first one). ds managed to get hold of a set that were part of the dragonology series.

JackieNo · 13/06/2008 21:49

Amazon? Not sure they're the same ones.

S1ur · 13/06/2008 21:49

I remember an older one for aboiut 10ish year olds about getting super powers. That was good. fark knows what it was called though!

Washersaurus · 13/06/2008 21:49

We had The Warlock of Firetop Mountain that we bought secondhand from a bookshop in Hay on Wye, absolutely loved it . I also had some more basic ones for younger readers - I can remember one about an Ice Age and a Mammoth.....

georgiemama · 13/06/2008 21:49

they were fantastic - there was one about a vampire train and one about a world in the centre of the earth. I loved them and so did my brothers, would be good for getting boys reading I think.

morocco · 13/06/2008 21:49

yep, you can still get them, ds always finds them at the library. sorry, don't know any titles though

I do know usborne (spot the rep lol) sell something similar they call puzzle books but they don't involve 'if .... then page 4, if ... then page 6, they just have puzzles on every page to be solved before reading the next page. not quite the same but still good fun

Hulababy · 13/06/2008 21:49

No, didn't all end up on same page. There were def different endings I am sure.

getbackinyouryurtjimjams · 13/06/2008 21:50

I loved them.

But if I was killed I would cheat and go change my mind.

wooga · 13/06/2008 21:50

I used to love those books-pretty nasty endings-I used to try again if I wasn't happy with what happened to 'me'!

cornsilk · 13/06/2008 21:51

My ds has loads of 'em. Gets them from waterstones.

fiodyl · 13/06/2008 21:54

I had some of these fighting fantasy books it looks like they are still making them

PinkTulips · 13/06/2008 21:54

i stole borrowed one from the school library that was a really cool fantasy type one.... bit dark but very cool.

there were lots of endings as you often died if you chose the wrong one and had to go back and try again!
