What are your 13 year olds (adventure) reading? And 16 year olds (nonfiction)?

DD13 loves reading, but no romance please! Likes adventure and detective or spy. Recent favourites are Skandar, Crookhaven. Loved Percy Jackson and Harry's Potter but has left those behind now. Currently reading a Sherlock Holmes.

DS16 won't read a "story" book unless it's a graphic novel. Has difficulty reading, but doesn't want to read things which are too young for him. Although he will read Diary of a Wimpy Kid, so maybe something similar but set for older kids would work. Likes animals, history (inventions, discoveries), outdoors & weather. His favourite books when he was younger were the eyewitness guides to things. I was wondering about an auto/biography but not sure whose.

I'd like to get them each a couple of books for Christmas, I can't get to a bookshop, so would be grateful for any recommendations.

Has your DD tried any Terry Pratchett? The Truckers, Diggers and Wings books are a good starting point. Or maybe Guards, Guards to go straight into Discworld (the guards books have adventure and a bit of detective work).

For your DS I’d suggest Gerald Durrell for autobiography and animals - the My Family books are popular but I always loved his animal collecting and zoo books best (obviously animal collecting was a job from a different time but he discusses that in later books once he’s established his zoo).

Your dd is probably about the right age for The Hunger Games trilogy

For the 13 year old Helen Moss Adventure Island series is brilliant although maybe a bit young. Also Twilight is surprisingly good, romance but not sexual.

Oh true, I'd forgotten about the Hunger Games. She hasn't read any Terry Pratchett, will look into those.
Thanks for the Gerald Durrell suggestion too. That could work.

Alex Rider (they do them in graphics too) are probably a little young, but they might enjoy them if they haven't read them yet.

For the 13yo the Cherub series, or Henderson Boys by the same author are good.

My 15 year old DS enjoyed the Bear Grylls autobiography (on the outdoors theme). He also liked the Bob Street Cat book (animal theme). Both of these are available as junior editions - same as adult edition just with swear words etc removed.
