Hi! My daughter is loving reading, getting through lots of books, she’s read a few roald
dahl, a couple of Jacqueline Wilson (very carefully selected)
does anyone have any suggestions of other books? She is a sensitive 7 year old in that she’s easily worried/ scared so some things are out of the question based on that.

Dick King-Smith books are generally easy going, or Paddington Bear. They're both fine for very young but still enjoyable for all.

Sophie Dahl’s Madame badoobedah books are really lovely for that age. Holly Webb’s snowy penguin island also a lovely one

The Ottoline books are very much in a parallel world, so don't feel close to home and any peril is very mild.

Thanks so much for the helpful suggestions. Some that I’ve not heard of at all, so going to look into those!

Dick King-Smith is a great suggestion for this age group.

Does she like animals? She may like Holly Webb, who has written what feels like hundreds of stories about puppies and kittens. They're very formulaic, but children of this age generally like that is a book series. Helen Peters also has a lovely series about animals. Search for 'Jasmine Green series'. She rescues animals and nurses them better on her parents' farm. Zoe's Reduce Zoo is another series of a similar theme.

Daisy and the trouble with... is another great series for this age group.

If she can get through Roald Dahl she can probably cope with most age appropriate books. My DS absolutely loved the Atticus Claw series (we read to him and he later read them himself) and the Claude books (sweet stories and amusing illustrations).

Older books often have gentle life stories.

Enid Blyton are pretty gentle. Faraway Tree etc especially so
Milly Mollie Mandy
There used to be a set called "Magic Kitten" that dd2 who was easily scared loved.
Some Noel Streatfields like Ballet shoes if she's up for that.
Chalet School is another that's easy reading (avoid Exile if she's easily scared)
My dd's favourite is "A Coronet For Cathy" by Gwendoline Courtney. She's probably a bit young currently, but look out for a cheap copy as it wasn't easy to get hold of a copy. GGBP did republish it I may have bought three

My daughter was a strong young reader and very sensitive. She loved Enid blyton at this age. I realise in places these are not PC so something to talk over with her.

Tom Gates, Horrible Henry, Big Nate. Andy Griffith’s Treehouse novels all went down well too.

Maybe look at ‘Daisy and the trouble with…’ books.

Oh I'd forgotten these! I second this suggestion.
