I am looking for a cookery book with easy recipes and step by step photos for an 8 year old, savoury as well as sweet recipes and easily adapted for dairy intolerance, there are so many to choose from online so hoping for some recommendations.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea
The Very Hungry Caterpillar

I really like Tickle fingers by Annabel Woolmer. It says 4-7 years on the cover but it might be ok for an 8 year old.

The bake me a story books by the lady who won the bake off a few years ago, they are lovely stories and bakes, not all sweet recipes but I'm sure there's a Christmas bake me a story too.

Agree with The Usbourne First Cookbook. We had a copy in our house for as long as I can remember. My mum was The Usbourne Book lady (think Tupperware party for books) and I loved that book. I now have the original and the updated versions that three of my DN 9,7 and 6 like to use.

I would look at Buddy Oliver’s book as his dad’s recipes are pretty reliable.

Oh yes that one’s good too, it appealed to my tween boy.

It’s not a children’s cook book per se but the river cottage family cookbook is aimed at children and adults that don’t really know cooking terminology. It explains what is needed to be done really well. My children used it a lot and doing a quick google it’s a bargain from WOB or amazon The River Cottage Family Cookbook https://amzn.eu/d/52tCIX0

My 9yo has enjoyed trying some recipes from buddy Oliver’s book.

She also has a Harry Potter cookbook but the recipes are really complicated and the baking seems to require a much higher skill level than we have to get pastry to look like hedwig or a cake to look like the golden snitch. So we wouldn’t recommend those.

And you can never go wrong with Mary berry no matter how old you are.

Cook School by Amanda Grant is lovely and focuses on building up different cooking skills. It has recipes for different ages, but a child could easily cook the ones for younger ages. It does have some dairy recipes & don’t know how easy they would be to adapt.
