Struggling to get DD(2) interested in a variety of books

She is obsessed with We’re Going On a Bear Hunt and just wants that, over and over! Obviously, it is a great book but I’m just a bit worried I might be limiting her vocabulary by not reading a range. It’s difficult as she doesn’t really show an interest in others. I’ve tried hiding it but she gets upset and asks for ‘bear hunt!’

It probably isn’t really an issue, I’m just looking for reassurance and any tips to try to broaden their horizons a bit!

It really isn't an issue. If she's at nursery they'll read other things, otherwise have a look for story time at the library. Talking to her will help her vocabulary

She’s only 2, give it another week and she’ll be asking for a different book on repeat. That’s what 2 year olds do, the familiarity of the story will be comforting to her and she’s probably starting to recite it with you. She will enjoy reading along with you and joining in when she knows what’s coming next. Leave different books around where she plays, enjoy a trip to the library or local book shop and the charity shop,is a good one too as lots of books to choose from for pennies. Diversity will come.

I wouldn't worry too much at this age. Repetition is good for them (just tiresome for us grown ups!). Have you tried 'my turn, your turn' when it comes to picking books? Each storytime, you get your turn first to pick which book you read her, with the reassurance that you will follow it straight up with Bear Hunt. So you read two books every storytime. You choice, then her choice. One day you may surprise you by going for something different as her choice (maybe something she enjoyed you reading to her when it was your choice).

That's what they're like when they are two.
It's quite a sweet phase really.
At least it's a decent book.
