Its just for getting to know which plants/birds etc we are seeing on our ramblings while showing the kids how to use an encyclopaedia type thing.

Ok it must be

quite small, pref A5, and not some huge tome.

Quite simple, not overwhemling, and clear pictures

It really doesn't need vast swathes of information, just enough iykwim

ONE book, not seperate books for birds/trees/plants. (unless they are 3 very thin books

and obv needs to be uk-specific

Any thoughs?

(I know I am fussy btw!)

actualy I think what we really want is an identification guide, as if we know what we are looking at (and often I don't ) we can then use t'internet at home.

We have something v similar to the spotters cards for science, they are very good and better than the associated book IMO

what I REALLY need though is a combined spotters cards for birds/bugs/trees/etc BUT in some sort of book form

spiral bound would be ideal

I am quite fussy

oh there IS a combined usbourne spotters one-birds flowers and trees

bugs are such a big thing for ds that we'd probably need a standalone one anyway .

the usborne spotters are the modern "I spy" books! Had forgotten about "I spy"

(yes you see rusty, there is a reason why I need an id guide.

that said I have asked dp and apparently there aren't many toucans in this part of wales either.)
