This is such a long shot. When I was "coming of age" there was a book in my local library that was thick and full of what I remember as agony aunt style questions all about puberty, masturbation and sex. It may have had an orangey yellow cover. It would have probably been between the millennium/2003 when I would have borrowed it- I borrowed it many times. I say 90s as I don't remember it being a brand new book but I could be wrong. I pored over it for great lengths of time and as DD is growing up I'd love to take another look at it. Please can anyone direct me to where I can find it does anyone else remember such a thing? I really found it fascinating.

Tbh I would assume you're enormously tired of life, not just a little, if this is your main concern on a Sunday evening.

Littlebittiredoflife · 01/06/2025 22:51

I was when I created that username. However I'm feeling much better now, so I'm not sure why that is the response to my question. I always had it in my head the book was a Judy Blume one, but having looked at her catalogue of books I can't find it all all. Would there be a better place for me to ask?

Was it written by Claire Rayner, by any chance?

Blackcordoroys · 01/06/2025 22:54

Is there an approved list of topics we are allowed to think about on a Sunday night? I’d like to check if my thoughts about the colour of some new towels I’m ordering are ok 🙂

Letters to Judy: what kids wish they could tell you?

What immediately springs to mind is 'Are you there god, it's me Margaret' by Judy Bloom but I think you've discounted that.

ParksidePen · 01/06/2025 22:57

I was a teen in the 1990s. The ones I had were Letters to Judy - which were letters written to Judy Blume. I also had a book called Girltalk (all the stuff your sister never told you.) I think I remember there being another book by Claire Rayner but I can’t remember what it was called.

redtrainmuddle · 01/06/2025 22:59

I thought of The Teenage Worrier’s Guide To Life by Ros Asquith right away. I owned another book by her, The Teenage Worrier’s Guide To Lurve (as a teen in the 90s) and it was very similar. Loved those books and they were actually helpful as a teen!

RuxpinT · 01/06/2025 22:59

Was it one of the 'I Was A Teenage Worrier' series of books by Ros Asquith? I remember one of those being in my local library during the 1990s, although I didn't ever read it. It was a thick paperback book with cartoon illustrations.

Do you remember the Diary of a Teenage Health Freak?? They were really good books.

Yes I had both of these! And probably read a lot of the others on the thread too, mostly from the library. It was a great source of information for me and I believe all that knowledge have changed my life!

I had never heard of this book. How others are talking about it it sounds like a good book. Would you say it is suitable for a 9yr old?

Littlebittiredoflife · 17/06/2025 08:34

Absolutely not- I think it's actually a book written for adults. Her other books like are you there God would be suitable for 10/11 year olds.
