Physically small (but good) books for 3 year old on a long flight

Looking for some books that will be very small and efficient for packing in hand luggage for a long (15 hour) flight. Mr Men seem like the obvious choice so I'll bring a few of those (although a lot are quite rubbish), but would be keen for other recommendations. For a 3 and a half year old boy.

You choose books are great! Quite long but thin so can pack many. My DC who’s 6 likes it for the story but DC who’s 3 likes to point at all the pictures and say what they are etc. can be used in many ways and promotes imagination

My nearly 3 year old DS loves Wimmelbooks. They're picture books with beautifully detailed scenes of construction sites, roads, farms... I think there are other options for less car-obsessed toddlers out there too 🤣 Make sure you go for the 'my little Wimmelbook' versions because the big versions are a bit larger than A4 size, great for bedtimes but not so good for travelling!

These books kept the DC amused for hours on long journeys.

Books from the Paddington Little Library set are small.

We had a set of Thmas the tank engine ones- DS loved them. Also consider dominoes as small and portable.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 15/04/2025 06:34

Thomas the tank obviously

Have you got a tablet? I used to have interactive Miffy books on mine, also some of the Oxford Reading Tree about Biff etc.

Travellingraspberry · 15/04/2025 07:09

I'd probably go for activity books like sticker books or spot books rather than just story books, you'd get a lot more time out of them

Ketchup on Your Cornflakes is brilliant! Split pages for interactive fun

Definitely the You Choose books, kids will happily spend ages looking at those books.

Thanks so much everyone. I hadn't done across the You Choose books before so I've ordered a couple of those, along with a Wimmelbook. Also signed up to the Amazon Kids subscription that was suggested as I've got an old Fire tablet (which we've not introduced him to before, but if ever there's a time then it's probably on a long flight!). Already got tons of sticker books.
