Katie Morag and Maisie of Morningside

Easter is coming round again and instead of chocolate I always buy my four nieces a book. My nieces are almost 9 (June), 7, 5 and two and half. The eldest liked The Baby Aliens Got my Teacher and is currently reading Lemony Snicket A Series of Unfortunate Events. The 5 year old enjoys the Claude books and Hotel Flamingo. What age would Katie Morag and Maisie of Morningside books be for as I remember enjoying these from my childhood and any recommendations for any of the other nieces appreciated.

I don’t know the Maisie book but loved Katie Morag - DD enjoyed them between 3-4.

Could work for 2.5, depending on the child but I haven’t looked at them with ds yet (2) and would probably wait a bit for him. Might be a bit young for 5, again depends on child. They’re quite good for that ‘still on picture books but ready for something a bit longer’ stage.

My 4 year old loves Katie Morag at the moment, so might work for the 5 year old.

The Maisie books are surprisingly long. Maisie herself is about 5 and starts school in one of the books. Mine listened but wasn't enraptured at about age 5.5, and she has good concentration. If you're buying as general family books for your neices then I'd imagine at least one of them would enjoy them, probably the 7 year old. Katie Morag is a KS1 book (Y1/2 age 5-7) in England.

Thank you all. I remember Maisie being in Brownies in one book too and I know the pack that she joined. The current leader is a friend. I will be buying them a book each as the nearly 9 year old and 2 year old are at totally different levels with books. The five year old and 7 year old are just 15 months apart in age (April and July) so what one enjoys the other one quite often does as well. The 7 year old will be 6 on Easter Sunday but turns 7 later in the following week.
