Help remembering children's picture book!

Hi!

I'm trying to find a copy of a book I had as a child. It was a thin, larger-sized paperback picture book with a lot of text (ie paragraphs rather than 1 or 2 lines). Background of cover and pages was white. Vaguely recall there was a bunch of characters living together, and fascinating illustrations showed cross-sections of their home with their little rooms etc. One character may have been a donkey, but I really can't recall details. I think this book was from the 90s, perhaps 80s at a push.

I could have sworn the characters lived in 'Cucumber Longbottom' but google isn't showing me anything relevant! I'm only convinced of this as my DSis and I built a hideout from a giant card box the tv came in (before flat screens, so the size of a small tent) and we named it Cucumber Longbottom, inspired by this book.

This book may have been Australian, as we had a lot of picture books purchased there, but the feel of it was very English so I'm doubtful of that.

Hoping someone knows what on earth it is, I want to have a copy for the illustrations!

The cutouts sound like Brambly Hedge (mice, not donkeys)

Unfortunately not Brambly Hedge, the illustrations in my book looked more modern than those ones. I do love a cross section of a cosy home though Grin

There were lots in the series about different animals like Fuzzypeg the hedgehog

Or do you mean cross-sections of houses like the Richard Scarry books? Though they don't have paragraphs of text.

There was an actual story to the book, I just remember my favourite bit being the illustrations of 'inside the home'.

This David Lucas spread is the most similar feel to what I think the book was like in terms of page layouts and also, to some extent, illustration style .
