Hi!

I'm trying to find a copy of a book I had as a child. It was a thin, larger-sized paperback picture book with a lot of text (ie paragraphs rather than 1 or 2 lines). Background of cover and pages was white. Vaguely recall there was a bunch of characters living together, and fascinating illustrations showed cross-sections of their home with their little rooms etc. One character may have been a donkey, but I really can't recall details. I think this book was from the 90s, perhaps 80s at a push.

I could have sworn the characters lived in 'Cucumber Longbottom' but google isn't showing me anything relevant! I'm only convinced of this as my DSis and I built a hideout from a giant card box the tv came in (before flat screens, so the size of a small tent) and we named it Cucumber Longbottom, inspired by this book.

This book may have been Australian, as we had a lot of picture books purchased there, but the feel of it was very English so I'm doubtful of that.

Hoping someone knows what on earth it is, I want to have a copy for the illustrations!

Thanks in advance.

Bramley Hedge?

The cutouts sound like Brambly Hedge (mice, not donkeys)

Unfortunately not Brambly Hedge, the illustrations in my book looked more modern than those ones. I do love a cross section of a cosy home though Grin

Very 80s cross section books

Little Grey Rabbit by Alison Utterly?

There were lots in the series about different animals like Fuzzypeg the hedgehog

Or do you mean cross-sections of houses like the Richard Scarry books? Though they don't have paragraphs of text.

There was an actual story to the book, I just remember my favourite bit being the illustrations of 'inside the home'.

This David Lucas spread is the most similar feel to what I think the book was like in terms of page layouts and also, to some extent, illustration style .
