Book for 6 year old to read on her own

We have lots of books for me or dp to read to dd but very little that she could read herself.

She is six and her teacher tells me her reading is very good. She does find her school reading books dull though and I thought if we found something else it might foster more enthusiasm.

Junie B Jones

Flat Stanley

Dirty Bertie

Millie Molly Mandy

Sophie stories (can't remember them off the top of my head, but Author is Dick King Smith)

Felicity Wishes - DD really loved those!

These are just a few of DDs favs! Will talk to her tomorrow and see what else!

Have just remembered another one

Jeremy Strong is also a good author for the young.

Some of the Roald Dahl books are great for this age.

My DD loves reading the Wheres Wally books, she likes to read what she has to look for.

Oh yes, forgot about "My Naughty Little Sister"

We are currently reading Junie B Jones which she is loving as she is loosing her teeth, the stickers went down well.

I will check out the others and jeremy Strong.

It is hard getting the balance right as she loved being read to and I don;t want to make story time a chore but I do think I have not been encouraging her reading enough

Jeremy Strong has good deals through "The Book People"

Think you can buy packs of his books for about £8 for 10 books - please do not quote me on this , but am pretty sure.

twinsetandpearls · 11/05/2008 23:36

Ooh will check that out, was just on Bookpeople looking for something for work.

I buy a lot of my DD's reading for home from "The Book People" I think you can get some good bargains sometimes.

twinsetandpearls · 11/05/2008 23:44

Yes I use the bookpeople to buy packs of books to give out as party bag gifts. Have also used them to use as silent reading books for my classroom.
