What next for DS after Adrian Mole..?

Looking for some book recommendations for my reluctant reader. DS is 13 and loved the first two Adrian Mole books but am struggling to find anything else to keep him interested. He's done Cherub, Tom Gates,Harry Potter etc etc but now anything I try and interest him in (apart from Adrian Mole) receives the classic response of 'I don't like it'.

Any recommendations of Adrian Mole like books gratefully received!

David Badiel is a fab writer and my son loved his books.

Also the 'Percy Jackson' series by Rick Riorden.

The rest of the Adrian Mole books! Introduce him to Terry Pratchett Disc World books. My favourites at his age were any of the books about the Death character. Very funny! Such as Mort, The Reaper Man or Thief of Time.

The Diary of a Teenage Health Freak Is excellent.

There are many more books in thd Adrian Mole series, is there a reason why he can't read those?.

Thanks all.

Re rest of Adrian Mole books - we have them all and I love(d) them as does his older brother. However younger DS is resistant and says they are boring. I suspect it's because, as Adrian gets older, he and his antics become less relatable to DS2.

Good idea re Terry Pratchett, David Baddiel and Teenage Health Freak. Sadly Percy Jackson (also loved by older DS) has also been rejected. DS2 is v fussy and it's quite frustrating.

As an avid reader myself I feel I must persist despite the fact that it causes annoyance for both of us!

Douglas Adams?

Boys Don't Knit, and Spud

I’m impressed that your DS likes the first two Adrian Mole books so much. Encourage him to read the rest of the series when he’s older!

Has he read any of the Just William
books? They have the worldview of the young protagonist, like Adrian Mole, set against the ridiculousness of things that happen, and are very funny. If by any chance he likes those I’d say PG Wodehouse is a good next step.

Careful not to start Pratchett with Colour of Magic - I love it now but I couldn’t get into it when I was younger. Mort, Johnny or the Nomes would all be good choices.

Has he tried any Gerald Durrell? My Family and Other Animals or maybe Three Singles to Adventure?

Alex Rider. And Horowitz’s actual James Bond novels.

What about Dick Francis? Easy to read, and can be picked up at book exchanges everywhere.

Agree with Rainisfalling. I think we started with Guards Guards
Skulduggery Pleasant
Sherlock Holmes
A Series of Unfortunate Events

My 12 year old is devouring the Skulduggery Pleasant Series at the moment. He also loved the series John Grisham wrote for teens - the Theodore Boone series. The Artemis Fowl books are worth a try too.

Sounds like he could be like my son, who only seems to like reading about real life people (I know Adrian mole is fictional) but not quite into autobiographies. Mine enjoyed Bob, No Ordinary Cat, youth friendly verison of the Street Cat Named Bob book (drugs and swearing removed) and the follow ups. Also, Wonder and the sequel.

Thank you all...some great recommendations which I, and hopefully DS, shall look forward to trying out.

Philip Pullman -?

Just William! Quite funny and well written. Good audio book version, if that works better (or for family road trip).
