Recommendations for fully illustrated chapter books (like Isadora Moon)

Morning all,

I have an ASD 7 year old who has recently got into reading Isadora Moon, Mirabelle and Emerald which I'm loving as they are "proper" books (as opposed to Julia Donaldson style shorter stories).

The thing that keeps her going is the fact that every single page is illustrated.

I've noticed there is a book called Tiny Dogs that appears to be similar in that it's illustrated on every page so we will try that, but can anyone recommend any other books where there are colour illustrations on every page?

She enjoys having books read to her or listening to audiobooks of things like Mummy Fairy and Me, or the Rainbow Magic Fairy books, but she won't read them independently as the sea of black text puts her off.

Thank you!

We have a couple of the Kitty books by Paula Harrison that my girls really like.

I’m looking at getting Agents of the Wild by Jennifer Bell as they look like they have some nice illustrations too.

As above, Kitty books are very similar in style to Isadora Moon (she's a superhero girl with cat super powers).

Wigglesbottom Primary, Rabbit and Bear, Claude, Hubble Bubble Granny Trouble and Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam are all chapter books with illustrations on each page too. The latter two also have short paperback stories featuring the same characters for younger readers so be careful to check if ordering online that you're actually buying the chapter books instead of these.

Daisy and the Trouble with... books by Kes Gray have lots of fab (black and white) illustrations and are brilliantly funny.

They're also great fun to read out loud if needed!

Thank you all that's genuinely helpful! I'll pop off to Waterstones at the weekend and have a look at some of these recommendations.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Try Thea Stilton books. They are stunning. We get them on eBay as American so you can’t get them in shops here. My daughter has about 20 of her books. They are beautiful. I am sure your daughter will love them. I can take photos of the books so you can see what they look like.

My DS liked phoenix comic about 7, usually a deal where you can get a 6 issues for £1 or something. Not sure if DD will also go that way, she's currently struggling with reading but 🤞

My DD read the Claude books by Alex T Smith around the same time as the Isadora Moon ones. There’s also the Mr Penguin series by the same author. He is an illustrator as well as an author so the illustrations are pretty integral to his books. (There may be more series now too - my DD read them probably 8-ish years ago now)

Does she like Pirates? DS had a series called the Jolley Rogers. There was a picture book but then 4 adventure style books with strong boy and girl lead characters. Lots of pictures and nice size print.
They were nice looking books and DS loved them.

I had never heard of these but it looks like there are lots of titles that involve magical creatures like fairies, which she would find interesting.

There seem to be quite a few in World of Books second hand so will maybe grab a couple to try alongside some of the other suggestions- thanks!

Ottoline? They aren't quite as eye catching and pretty as the Isadora ones (which are gorgeous!) but they are heavier on the illustrations than the mummy and me ones if I remember correctly. They also read really easily and flow well, we used them as one that I would read and she would read herself, they were ones I enjoyed!
