I read a few of these to DDs 1 and 2 at bedtime tonight. Absolutely fantastic. I read them as a kid myself and think I probably enjoyed them just as much, if not more than, as my girls tonight. [smle]

DS loves them.I find them a bit tedious to read, apart from Mr Tickle,as it gives me a good excuse for a ticklefest with ds

JackieNo · 05/04/2008 22:13

The DCs quite like them. I quite like the fact that there are some 'long' words in them that I suspect these days authors might not put in books aimed at that age group. But they can be a PITA if you have to read more than one, maybe two, in a sitting.

chipmonkey · 05/04/2008 22:31

The ds's loved them but I hate reading them!
Luckily we all love Dr Seuss!

Sidge · 05/04/2008 22:38

I don't mind the older Mr Men books, but the newer ones and the Little Miss ones are crap.

And I detest Beatrix Potter. Awful awful books.

bozza · 05/04/2008 22:40

DS and DH are keener than I am. But DS has been well able to read them to himself for a couple of years now. And he has his favourites. DD also likes the Litte Misses.

MissPaulaYates · 05/04/2008 22:42

sorry but i think mr men books are the pits

my dream is to open an independant childrens book shop

i will not stock those sorry items

GodzillasPimplyBumcheek · 05/04/2008 22:43

I agree - quite boring to read, except Mr Nosey, Mr Chatterbox, Mr Noisy, Mr Mischief, and Little Miss Bossy. And Mr Tickle, Mr Happy, Mr Tall, Little Miss Splendid...oh God, somebody please stop me...

avenanap · 05/04/2008 22:44

I love Mr Men. I have so many fond memories of them, I used to buy one for my ds once a week and I used to read them to him all the time. By the age of 2 he knew all of their names, Mr Tickle was the fist book he ever read. They are lovely.

WideWebWitch · 06/04/2008 15:31

God, the new ones are TERRIBLE. And the older ones aren't much better, I think it's just nostalgia that makes us all remember them as so great.

lucy77 · 08/04/2008 22:18

I adore the original Mr Men books and so does my 2 year old ds. Some of the above comments are soooo harsh! They help children understand the meaning of words and feelings. The newer ones by Roger's son are not so good though, and don't get me started on the new Mr Men show cartoons - they're awful!

pointydog · 08/04/2008 22:20

apart from Mr greedy, I do not like them. They make me Mrs Bored

halogen · 16/04/2008 20:06

I absolutely hate the Mr Men books. They're so badly written and the whole Little Miss thing makes me want to scream. What is wrong with Mrs or Miss or even Ms? My mum always refused to read them to us as kids and we thought she was incredibly mean but I totally see her point now. Someone gave my daughter some of them and even she is bored stiff by them (hoorah!) - although she does love bastard Spot the blardy dog so it's not all quality reading round here.

I shall also be refusing to read them to my daughter. This may sound mean but it made me very keen to learn to read so it's not all bad.

Blandmum · 16/04/2008 20:07

You can't beat the Mr men books......for lighting a fire

loath them

oxocube · 16/04/2008 20:10

I quite enjoy Mr Men books in a bizarre kind of way but LOATHE Beatrix Potter with a passion. Strangely enough ds (6) and very into the most gory and bloody tales imaginable seems to really enjoy them They are so unbelievably dull and nothing EVER happens
