If a book is available in both formats which one would you go for/which do you prefer?

Depends on the book?

Depends on age of child?

Only the board books survived my baby's enthusiasm. I get paper now he's bigger because they're cheaper and take less space.

Board books for ds until now, aged 5. I had to replace 1 particularly well loved book 3 times! Paper books for dd now she's 2, she's a lot more careful with books.

Board books until at least age 2-3 so they can turn the pages themselves easily and without ripping them. After this point, depending on how heavy handed the child is, move onto paperbacks.

Depends on the child. Mine has never ripped pages and has sat with paper books since before he was one, turning the pages himself to look at the pictures. So we have mostly paper books. They take up less space to store and sit nicely in the front facing bookshelf.

But he also has a little basket in his room that perfectly fits board books so he has a collection of board books in that and likes them just as much, still now at two and a half.

There's something really nice about chunky sturdy board books. And they're better for lift the flap stories.

Depends on the child! My eldest was really gentle with paper books by the age of 3 - my youngest, not so much 😬
