My daughter received The Hunger Games set for Christmas and has devoured them and is rereading them now. Are there any other books in a similar vein that you could recommend for her?

Thank you

The Divergent series and Twilght series.

Doppelgangers · 02/02/2024 18:10

Has she read any Rick Riordan?

DelurkingAJ · 02/02/2024 18:11

Artemis Fowl, Northern Lights and sequels and Percy Jackson are all big hits here.

RunningFromInsanity · 02/02/2024 18:12

Was coming on to say Divergent.

Matched series by Ally Condie
Maybe the Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare

Flamango · 02/02/2024 18:14

Chaos walking trilogy - DS is enjoying these at 12.

MagpiePi · 02/02/2024 18:20

Another vote for Percy Jackson and Artemis Fowl. (I still read these as an adult.) Would Mallory Blackman's Noughts and Crosses series be too adult?
Terry Pratchett's Tiffany Aching series, starting with The Wee Free Men. A series that definitely has women as the the heroes!

Needmorelego · 02/02/2024 18:27

The Gone series by Michael Grant

TadpolesInPool · 02/02/2024 19:20

The Windsinger trilogy.

Slated is also a post apocalyptic series that is excellent.

Not post apocalyptic but my DS adores the Cherub series (kid spies) and The Bodyguard series.

Tomorrow When the War Began- a series by John Marsden.

It’s written for a teenage audience and I remember being obsessed with it when I was in school.

Ladybird909 · 02/02/2024 20:56

His Dark Materials trilogy

EarthlyNightshade · 02/02/2024 21:00

Mortal Engines Philip Reeve

Yes, she has read the Percy Jackson books and enjoyed those too.

If she's read the Percy Jackson books and enjoyed them I'd definitely get some of his other series such as the heroes of Olympus, magnus chase and the Kane Chronicles.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 02/02/2024 21:03

When you said read Percy Jackson have they read all the accompanying series like Magnus Chase?

Possibly the Shadow & Bones, Leigh Bardugo series - I think normally targeted at 12/13+ but then TBF I'd say the same of the hunger games so may be ok. Fantasy YA with strong female lead, it's a trilogy and then there are related trilogies in the same world by same author that she can read.

NotInvisible · 02/02/2024 21:20

The Maze Runner series
The Legend series

OakElmAsh · 02/02/2024 21:21

Keepers of the Lost Cities.... my DD absolutely loved this series

YouBelongWithMe · 02/02/2024 21:22

Would highly recommend The Extinction Trials series, which is a kind of cross between Hunger Games and Jurassic Park. Well-written for YA fiction.

Also recommend the Unwind series by Neal Shusterman.

English teacher here, and both series have had great responses from teens.

Nocoffeenotalkie · 02/02/2024 21:26

Thank you all! I will show her these in the morning.

weegiemum · 02/02/2024 21:47

EarthSea quartet by Ursula Le Guin - gave me a lifelong love for fantasy.

Anne McCaffrey Dragonriders of Pern.
