I'd love to buy my niece Ballet Shoes, but I wonder if it's very dated. Ditto E Nesbit. She's eight and a half and a big reader but I don't want to buy her something that isn't quite right.

The ballet shoes one was Breat Uncle Matthew. Can't remember about the Ann of Green Gables one - but aren't they fab books!

MeAndMyMonkey · 18/03/2008 22:37

Pollyanna - sp!

seeker · 18/03/2008 22:37

Great - durrrrrr!

IdrisTheDragon · 18/03/2008 22:37

I suppose I could go and check in my copy of Ballet Shoes, but this would involve removing myself from the sofa....

wheelybug · 18/03/2008 22:37

Yes, just checked - we woz right.

Isn't MN great for making you spend the evening thinking about something trivial .

shreddies · 18/03/2008 22:37

Was it really Matthew? I was convinced it was Maurice. Sorry for any confusion caused

and AoGG is why i am pro-Gil in the Name Franny's possible DS2 competition.

IdrisTheDragon · 18/03/2008 22:38

Oh good, I don't have to go and check .

Tamum · 18/03/2008 22:39

No, I knew he wasn't a great uncle, and I knew he was Uncle Matthew, I just meant I thought maybe I was extrapolating that to BS. Who could forget that chapter when he dies

WendyWeber · 18/03/2008 22:40

Why doesn't F&Z have Matthew, Aitch?

Lovely name, lots of sweet pet names, perfect!

wheelybug · 18/03/2008 22:42

Aitch - I agree, Gil is a great name. Friends and I used to spend days swooning over Gilbert Blythe in the films...

I have Anne of Avonlea which I got on readitswapit but need to get hold of Anne of GG to reread first !

sonicdeathmonkey · 18/03/2008 22:49

Aww thanks No19 - I'm so tempted to start some outrageous AIBU thread now . Glad to help - have spent a few years re-remembering my childhood books and its a killer when you can't find the one you want, luckily the only thing I hoard more than books is photos so I haven't had too much trouble - apart from where to put them

And wow - I'll finally get on a list that doesn't start 'missing mumsnetters'!!! I'm so excited! (I was on here ages a while back and regarded as an Elder in the clique of 'no-one else wants us because we're too silly' but I had a few months break and have snuck back in with a new name )

Aitch · 18/03/2008 22:54

matthew is good, i think, but it may not be wanky arty enough for our frank. she likes leander. REALLY.

pointedegg · 18/03/2008 22:59

How about Matto?

Aitch · 18/03/2008 23:00

isnt that a cut-price supermarket?

pointedegg · 18/03/2008 23:01

Aldi.

Another good name, along the lines of Arlo I think you'll agree.

Aitch · 18/03/2008 23:02
pointedegg · 18/03/2008 23:04

har

asda woman not made her mind up yet?

Aitch · 18/03/2008 23:06

i think she's going to wait(rose) and see what it is before she decides.

pointedegg · 18/03/2008 23:09

orcado at 7 then

pointedegg · 18/03/2008 23:11

(I just made that up, by the way. Means nothing. I must off)

Aitch · 18/03/2008 23:13

you've offended someone on the kmum's holiday thread, you dope.

RosaIsRed · 19/03/2008 00:43

Has anyone else read my favourite Louisa May Alcotts - Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom? I loved them so much but no one else I know has ever read them - you lot sound like you might harbour an Alcott-fancier among you.

cmotdibbler · 19/03/2008 08:44

Hemingford Grey House is Lucy Bostons house, and you get taken round by her daugher in law, Diana, who still lives there. Its the oldest private house in continuous occupation in Europe I believe, and the quilts that Lucy made are just fantastic

Monkey - I've read, and co own rather a lot of Angela Brazils. In fact I might reclaim them from mum now that I have more book space

Bink - Yes, I have Castle of Yew, and the Sea Egg.

For the AofGG fans - has anyone read Jane of Lantern Hill ?

I should be working now, but instead have this terrible urge to be reading instead.

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2008 14:02

at all especially the thread for normal people. It would be quite SHORT I think Aitch.

I am not convinced about Gil but am considering Blythe. I won't do Laurence for a dd but might do Laurie

I have too many really quite a few Noel Streatfeild books. Over 40 I think.
