By the power of mumsnet please help me with the title of these books. They were hardback small childrens books with illustrations like brambly hedge. They featured a mouse colonel, hedgehog and other woodland folk. They were all dressed in edwardian clothing. One story was about a wandering weasel who slept in a tree stump and ate the hedgehog ladies raspberry pie. Any ideas?

Nope! Looked very similar to brambly hedge in illustrations. Came as a box set.

I had some that were from Marks and Spencer (under the St Michael's name) that were called Mrs Hedgehog and Friends.
There were 3 books in total (or rather I had 3).

Beatrix Potter was my first thought, but I’m guessing it’s not them.

Needmorelego · 08/10/2023 10:23

picture....
these were big hardback books though

Wind in the willows box set? I'd loved this, illustrations very similar to Brambly Hedge which I also loved.

I don't know your books but I've just just been reading Brambley Hedge to my DDs recently and it's so nostalgic

@Dmsandfloatydress I might have to search them out too - I read everything else mentioned on this thread but not those one 🤣

MankyMinge · 08/10/2023 16:00

I recall a series of children's picture books about animals in a wood, but I don't remember them being clothed. There was a squirrel named Samantha, a rabbit named Buck, and a fox family. That's all I remember.

MankyMinge · 08/10/2023 16:15

Oh, I found mine. The Woodlanders series by Muriel Miller.

Yay!

Oh I'm so pleased! I've got my old copies and still love them. My favourite was the one where the tailor dyed some shoes for Verity the mole using dye made of blackberries to match her dress for a party

MankyMinge · 08/10/2023 19:45

@Artesia they sound lovely. I somehow missed these growing up .

I did read Little Grey Rabbit, Hedgerow Tales, Beatrix Potter, and all those Medici books by Molly Brett, Racey Helps etc.

Artesia · 08/10/2023 21:20

They were beautiful books. They had a gorgeous illustrated map of the wood inside the front cover- I spent hours looking at it, planning what route I'd take around the wood if I could ever go there. Gosh- makes me feel a bit emotional remembering reading them with my mum

NancyJoan · 08/10/2023 21:23

Oh, I so loved the Little Grey Rabbit books. Used to cry and cry every time all the small animals lost Moldy Warp’s treasures as they ran through the field.

I loved these books and have them ready to read to my daughter. They are the reason my Nan’s budgie was named Charlie Crow…
