Did anyone read these when they were younger? I totally LOVED them. I was so disappointed the series ended at the end of Rebecca and co's fifth year at school...

I have them all still, most of them signed by Anne Digby at the children's book fair in Weymouth Pavilion, for which me and my best friend were allowed out of school, especially to see her.

That's amazing! I bought them all on eBay a few years ago and reread them. I then discovered the final book that I hadn't previously read! (They'd all just been reprinted). So exciting!

Is Anne Digby still alive? I wonder if she could be persuaded to write some more? Although would be odd having to include references to modern tech (mobile phones etc) in the books. Gonna Google her now...

She's 80 and, excitingly, lives in East Sussex, which is where I live! Anne Digby is a pen name apparently.

I have the full set and read them regularly. Would LOVE to to read about Rebecca’s 6th form experience!

ShermansSherberts · 06/10/2023 19:00

I loved these . I also enjoyed the Me, Jill Robinson books by the same authour, but not half as much as the Trebizon ones. I enjoyed Enid Blyton and Angela Brazil and Elinor M. Bremt-Dyer's chalet school, but apart from Anotnia Forest and her Marlowe family books set in Kingscote, none of them were as good or with finely drawn characters as Trebizon!

I’m currently rereading the Trebizon books as I was reminded of them by another thread a couple of weeks ago. I was also disappointed she never took the series into the 6th form. I loved them as a teenager and still love them now!

Yes I would love to read about Rebecca Mason as a sixth fomer. I can imagine her following in the footsteps of her girl crush Pippa Fellowes-Walker and becoming head girl!

Me too! Such a shame that the series ended at the end of the fifth year.

Yes, the Trebizon books had amazing characters. Definitely my favourite. I never read the Jill Robinson ones. Maybe I should now as a 50 year old!

Love them, have very few of my childhood books but still have these & my girls have now read them too.
6th form would have been great!

EmmareadswithE · 01/11/2024 06:40

Hi, I also read them as a child and have re bought them via Amazon and eBay to read with my daughter but we can’t get the last two anywhere! Is anyone able to help me locate them at all? I need secret letters at Trebizon and the unforgettable fifth. Ps I’m also gutted she never wrote about the sixth.

They are all available on Kindle if you can't find paper copies.

EBearhug · 01/11/2024 08:18

Secret letters was always difficult to get, even when it was first published.

EBearhug · 01/11/2024 08:22

But, as well as eBay, Amazon/Abebooks, hen i was looking to complete a different series, I found some on the Oxfam website and... a couple of other second hand sites.

burnoutbabe · 01/11/2024 08:55

You can get them but they are £30-£50 second hand via eBay /anazon.

You may get lucky with a random charity shop.

I sold my final version but was cheeky and photocopied it first -only 120 pages.

I think a complete re-read is needed of all. Most only take one bath length!

ChessieFL · 01/11/2024 09:10

The last couple are pretty rare so like a
pp said expect to pay ££ for them.

I absolutely agree! I 'm so glad to find a Trebizon thread on here!

Cindersroo · 13/11/2024 23:44

I was def a Malory towers /St Clare’s loyal as a tween, but I did enjoy a bit of Trebizon too when I was slightly older! Super cool to hear Anne Digby is still alive and lives in East Sussex.

Pinkruler · 13/11/2024 23:55

I loved them . They were like a better written version of Mallory Towers / St Claires.

I tried to look them up a few years back and was sad to see they were out of print.

Cindersroo · 14/11/2024 00:05

I work in the publishing industry and as to whether they were better written children’s fiction or not compared to St Clare’s is fairly subjective especially given the target audience.

As a kid, I was all about connecting to a character and feeling lots of “heart” and getting a sense of a warm atmosphere from the authors world building .

Personally I got that from St Clare’s /Malory towers more than Trebizon because of the way Blyton wrote, so for me Trebizon books weren’t “better written” although I do look back fondly on ALL of them as well as some other school based series.

I loved my local library and how there was so much to choose from so everyone could find their favourite series! Nowadays I think many children have less agency in what books they read and it’s more driven by parents.

burnoutbabe · 14/11/2024 08:00

I assumed Trebizon was written for an older audience-say 13? As it mentioned spots and boyfriends. I sm not sure if periods were mentioned?

Whereas st Claire's /Mallory were more 9-11 and how they imagined bigger girls to be.

Now at 13-15 we get hunter games /twilight/maze runner /the divergent series? House of the night. Much hethtier books than Trebizon.

EBearhug · 14/11/2024 09:20

I was reading Trebizon around age 11 (as they were being published.) They did seem more modern (because they were,) but I don't think they were aimed at much older than Malory Towers/St Clare's audiences.

Pinkruler · 14/11/2024 11:04

I felt the Trebizon books were aimed a bit older and more set in the real world.

I definitely identified more with Rebecca than any MT or St Claires characters - she seemed like someone like me, albeit much better at tennis.
