Books Your 9 Year Old Enjoyed

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 21/06/2023 19:17

My son is doing a reading challenge and plans to read 25 books.

I am looking for books he might enjoy beyond the obvious Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Roald Dahl and Harry Potter books.

Thanks

The Darren Shan books!

Magicmagician · 21/06/2023 19:34

Adventures on trains series by MG Leonard and Sam Sedgeman went down well

Lavenderblume · 21/06/2023 19:41

Has he already read the David Walliams books?

whereareyousleep · 21/06/2023 19:47

My 9 year old loved baby aliens got my teacher by Pamela Butchart. There are others in the series. Also Land of Roar books. Have only read the first one so far but it's good.

moonnery · 21/06/2023 21:24

Probably 25 stories for young children and 20 Stories for Bedtime Reading to Children. Other encyclopedias. In general, most of all different games.

Peabody25 · 21/06/2023 22:33

Ds9 really didn't like the David Walliams ones but loves The land of roar series, Pages and Co series, Loki the bad gods guide to being good, terry Pratchett Tiffany Aching series, Which way to anywhere by Cressida Cowell, George's secret key to the universe by Stephen and Lucy Hawking, David Baddiel books, and then Treehouse series, Wimpy kids and Tom Gates.

My ds is really enjoying the horrible histories books at the mo.

LakeFlyPie · 21/06/2023 23:18

My reluctant reader loved Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo and Holes by Louis Sachar

Wasywasydoodah · 21/06/2023 23:19

Tom Gates here. Also Planet Omar books are popular.

ElizaWinter · 21/06/2023 23:21

The Bolds by Julian Clary and yes I am old enough to remember JC as a stand up comedian. The Bolds, however are great books and very tame.

The Alex Rider books.

ReginaPerrin · 22/06/2023 20:10

My lad enjoyed Diane Wynne Jones books from about the age of 8 upwards. I’d kept the ones I’d read myself as a child - I’m not sure how many of them are still in print now, but he absolutely loved them, as did I.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/06/2023 20:16

When DS2 was 9 he was obsessed with Michelle Paver's Chronicles of Ancient Darkness books. A lot of my Y5 boys were reading them this year on my recommendation...

FindingTheFox · 22/06/2023 20:27

The Tiffany Aching arc from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series (Wee Free Men, Hat Full of Sky, Wintersmith, I Shall Wear Midnight, The Shepherd's Crown)

Coraline by Neil Gaiman

The Impossible Boy by Ben Brookes

The House with Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson

Stig of the Dump by Clive King

The Marsh Road Mysteries series by Elen Caldecott

The Shapeshifter series by Ali Sparkes

The Tom Gates series by Liz Pichon

The Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan

The Chronicles of Narnia

The Hobbit

Also, I have a dvd of an old BBC adaptation of Stig of the Dump. I'd forgotten about that. We could read the book before watching it together. Thanks for the reminder FindingTheFox Smile
