Pirate Books?

Melanie70 · 21/02/2008 14:49

My son is three and a half and thinks he's a pirate. His all-time favourite book is called Captain Yellowbelly - The Tale Of The Terrible Pirate.

Just wondered if anyone could recommend some other pirate books that are worth a look?

Thanks,

Mel

We bought DS a great pirate book (the night pirates) from WHSmiths. It's about a little boy who's house gets taken away by the night pirates with him too, for an adventure.

There's a CD that comes with it too. It's got a funny ending that makes DS laugh too.

Forgot to say, we had another book given to us for xmas (it's a chunky big book with a pirate story but you can use the board inside and little cutout pirates, treasure chests etc for imaginary play too)

This book is one that my son loves. He is just about 3 (in April) and I have to read this to him about twice a week.

captqin Abduls pirate school - it is a picture book.

This Pirate Pete book by Nick Sharratt is fun. It's not a long or serious story but instead has different slot-in pictures on each page. So the book might say 'That way be treasure, said Captain Stubble pointing his...." and you can either put in the sword picture or perhaps his teddy-bear or even a lobster. Small boys (and girls) think it's hilarious.

The Night Pirates. Definitely!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 21/02/2008 17:36

Oh yes the Night Pirates but you have to whisper the 'quiet as mice, stealthy as shadows' bit.

stealthsquiggle · 21/02/2008 17:37

naturally, and you have to shout "If you don't give me my treasure back, I'll TELL MY MUM"

funnyhaha · 21/02/2008 17:39

Another vote for the night pirates here - "Tom was a nice little boy, Tom was a brave little boy..."

If he likes Dinosaurs too, try Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dionsaurs. In the same vein - sort of comic book format - Mungo and the Picture Book Pirates. My dd (3) loves both of these

Thanks eveyone,

Lots of things to try here

Oh yes, Night Pirates is fab. DD also loves Lila Pirate. Another feminist pirate tract, in fact. I'm sensing a theme.

Habbibu · 21/02/2008 19:39

and best line for NP - "I've seen a house" - rest of pirates "We've all seen houses".

AttillaTheHan · 21/02/2008 19:45

Another vote for night pirates here. Another pirate book worth a look is 'a new home for a pirate' about a boy and a farmer swapping lives.
I also second Captain Flynn and the pirate dinasaurs mentioned earlier.

pirate book
sing-a-long with cd. We love it!

Captain Pugwash is back again in print and these books are magnificent IMO. My DS1 (just turned 4) thinks they are absolutely fantastic. [ps the Master Bate discussion in pubs/student union bars is an urban myth (as I suspected at the time) in fact it is Master Mate on the original TV series only. no sign of a Seaman Staines either - so double-entendre free]
