Any Ideas for Books for Almost 7 Year Old

WillaHermione · 16/05/2023 21:22

My eldest niece is almost 7 (June) and has after a book I bought her at Christmas discovered the joy of reading alone. Niece has since read The Worst Witch series, My Naughty Little Sister and Baby Aliens Got My Teacher series. Does anyone have any recommendations on other books she might like as she loves reading.

There is a series of science books by Anna Claybourne called Tiny Science - they are on different topics such as germs, DNA, cells, microscopic creatures, etc. They are really nicely laid out and good for that age, I think.

Thank you all. I haven’t heard of most of those so plenty of books to look at.

Aged six?!

My niece loves them ? It says online from age 7+ ? What's the issue?

Various animal books by Holly Webb
Isadora Moon - Harriett Muncaster
Ottoline - Chris Riddell
Secret Seven - Enid Blyton
Some of the less scary Roald Dahl books (Esio Trot, Fantastic Mr Fox, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the chocolate factory)

Non-fiction is great too: Usborne first encyclopedia, questions & answers etc.

My DN is 7 and likes Horrid Henry and the Famous Five.

Andanotherone01 · 17/05/2023 12:45

DD1 loved Enid Blyton and DD2 really liked Horrid Henry, the Mummy Fairy and Me series and Zoe's Rescue Zoo series. I think we found most of the sets at The Works

The Owl who was afraid of the dark and the others by the same author are lovely.

DS2 is just 7 and has really enjoyed the Toto the Ninja Cat series, The Boy Who Grew Dragons series and The Dragon in the Library and sequels.

BlueChampagne · 22/05/2023 13:06

Horrible Histories
Sophie and the Shadow Woods
How to Tame your Dragon
Narnia

FreeButtonBee · 22/05/2023 13:11

Bunny v Monkey are really fun - my 7 YO (and my 10 yos!) love them and they get re-read frequently.

CatChant · 22/05/2023 13:22

Beverly Cleary’s Ramona series,
Dick King-Smith, especially the Sophie series,
Michael Bond’s Paddington chapter books, and his Olga da Polga and Thursday books,
Elizabeth Beresford’s Wombles series,
Barbara Sleigh’s Carbonel trilogy,
Rosemary Manning’s Green Smoke series,
Enid Blyton’s Five Find Outers and Dog series,
Berlie Doherty’s Tilly Mint Tales,
Cressida Cowell’s How to Train Your Dragon series.

Barefoot Books do wonderful editions of traditional fairy and folk tales with beautiful illustrations. They were adored by my DC at that age.

FriedEggChocolate · 22/05/2023 13:35

Any of the Harriet Muncaster series: Isadora moon, Emerald, Mirabelle. They're lovely hard back books which would look great wrapped as gifts.

Needmorelego · 22/05/2023 13:43

I would say some Jacqueline Wilson books are fine for 7.
The Mum Minder, Lizzie Zipmouth, Sleepovers, The Lottie Project are all fine for age 7.
The Daisy and the Trouble with books by Kes Grey are funny.
Ramona Quimby books by Beverly Cleary

TheWildOnesRunningWithTheDogs · 22/05/2023 16:26

Another suggestion: Leonora Bolt - my DD got one for her birthday and devoured it in 3 hours.

WeirdPookah · 23/05/2023 13:12

Toto The Ninja Cat, my daughter loved these.

LaGiaconda · 23/05/2023 13:17

I would join your nearest library.

Bunny v Monkey are really fun - my 7 YO (and my 10 yos!) love them and they get re-read frequently.

I've just bought the first Bunny vs Monkey book along with Cat kid Comic club for dgds 7th birthday next month. She's into making her own comics right now so I'm hoping she'll like them.
Owl babies Martin waddell
Hodgeheg by Dick King smith

Mrsfussypants1 · 23/05/2023 13:52

Sorry should've read the owl who was afraid of the dark.

BlueChampagne · 24/05/2023 12:40

Subscription to The Phoenix? My 13yo still looks forward to its arrival.
