Need shortish and pacy books for for 9 year old DS

We are so struggling to get any real momentum with DS reading.
Our most successful series have been Famous Five and Dogman!

He enjoys non fiction more than fiction but surely there must be a way to get him reading 'stories' for pleasure ?

Currently reading Amari and the night brothers and finding it a real slog - too long and long winded - even I am bored of it .

HELP!

I have an older DD who is an avid reader and we have so many books but nothing seems to appeal .

Alex Rider. My ds loved it at this age. My dh was less impressed, describing it as unrealistic

So i think what i'm saying is don't force it! Reading comes in many guises - give him plenty of opportunity to read and maybe he will find something he enjoys reading along the way.

I purchased the first in the 'last kids on earth' series last week and my son has loved reading that. I've already had to buy the rest in the series. It's not that short but it's got pictures in a the font is big so it's easy and quick to read.

Oh God I'd forgotten those too - they were a BIG hit in our house! And sort of quite funny, in a very American teen way.

Same issue. Struck gold with ‘The Secret Zoo’ recently which was a surprise hit. It’s a series too.
I find books with short chapters are better received.

What about some David Walliams? The World's worst... My DC like the rude humour and the individual stories are short.
