Hi,

It’s my daughter’s 1st birthday in a few weeks & I’d really like to get her a nice book that she’ll be able to keep as a keepsake.

I’ve got a few myself from my Nanny who wrote messages on the inside cover & I absolutely treasure these. I’d quite like to keep the tradition going.

I’d love any suggestions! (The book will only be read under supervision so doesn’t need to be a board book)

TIA

The complete tales of Beatrix Potter
A fairy-tale book

Guess how much I love you or The Velveteen Rabbit.

Jolly Postman. I still have mine from childhood.

Although it's got lots of fiddly bits so maybe better for when she's a bit older, but it is wonderful.

The Folio edition of Letters from Fairyland is unbelievably sweet. Little letters from fairies that you can unfold and gorgeous illustrations. It is £50 though and probably best saved until she's about 6 or 7.

Dr Seuss, The Places you will go.

Any of the pop up books by Robert Sabuda. They’re stunning. My DD’s favourite is Alice in Wonderland.

The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies. Beautiful illustrations and I loved these fairies as a kid. You can get a personalised version on My First Years website.

If you want a classic eg Alice in Wonderland look at Barnes and Noble leather bound classics. They can be bought through Amazon although I purchased my DDs in USA.

I had, and so did my brother, an Around The Year Storybook, illustrated by Richard Scarry, with a story for every night.

I'm now reading them to my children!

It is more than likely out of print (also was originally printed in the 1950's so some terms are outdated, eg for Native Americans etc) but I am sure you can find something similar.

Thank you for the recommendations everyone! We went with the Folio Society’s edition of the Velveteen rabbit in the end 😊
