Is Pippi Longstocking suitable for a 9 year old or a bit young?

I loved Pippi Longstocking when I was young and wanted to get it for my 9 year old niece but the woman at bookshop went to the 5-8 year section to look for it. Is that the age it is aimed at? I thought I was older when I read it. Thanks

Agree with Mink Velvet; my dd who is 8 and a half enjoyed reading it at Xmas and so did I

Brilliant. Just what I wanted to hear! Really wanted to introduce her to the world of Pippi and I guess relive it myself!

I bought it for DD1 (9) for Christmas and she loved it. (She's a pretty good reader).

This is why I have to read it again! The memories have become vague but I do remember the horse!

I read it to my DD when she was about 6/7 but now she reads it herself and still loves it. What's not to like? I love Pippi and I'm 39 and 11/12ths!

DD1 first read it at 7 or so, and at 10 she still goes back and rereads it quite often - she actually wrote about it in her reading diary recently as one of her 'desert island' books. DD2 is now 7 but hasn't read it yet.
