Trying to find an 80s-90s book with very little information!

MN has helped me track down a couple of half-remembered books from my teens, but I remember so little of this one that it may not be possible!

I read it sometime in late primary to the end of secondary school, so mid-80s to 1995. All I remember is:

  • The main character is a teenager, and she and her mum (and possibly younger brother) had moved to a new house, possibly a quite old house, and possibly in the countryside/ on the edge of town.
  • She became friends with a boy her age who lives near the new house, who is trying to prove that a building nearby had been used for a ‘Real Tennis’ court in the 15th-16th century (he explains it’s very different from Lawn Tennis like Wimbledon).
  • She collects dried plants and sprays them silver to make Xmas decorations to sell at a local fair, as they don’t have much money. In my memory, this comes across as a 70s Laura Ashley-type idea, so the book may have dated from then

And that’s all I remember! Can anyone help?

Hopeful bump for the evening crowd.

Did she have a twin who had died before the story started? I have a vague memory of something along those lines and the girl (or her late sister) was Cass/Cassie/Cassandra. Could be completely wrong though!

I don’t think so. I’m not even sure about there being younger brother in the story!
