Books needed for 4 year old soon to become big sister

I'm sure this has been asked before but I am looking for some decent books on an older sibling coping with the birth of a new baby. I would prefer something for slightly older children rather than really baby books. Any helpful suggestions?

Mr Bear's New Baby by Debi Gliori. This would be good as it does refer to a big sister. Please email me if you would like it.

There's one I had for my kids called "Sophie and the New Baby" (or might be Sophie & the Winter Baby). I think it's by an Australian couple (Arnholt?) who have done quite a few childrens books. I liked it because it shows the reality of a new baby taking up a lot of Mum & dad's time and the little girl getting very angry about this - and the fact that babies can be quite boring to a 4 year old. I was 4 when my long-awaited sister was born and was most disappointed to find she couldn't run around and play with me straightaway!

I second Sophie and the New Baby. The girl in the story is probably about 5 so it's great for older siblings.

I have a brand new Angelina one that was part of a set that I split for presents, but that one never seemed appropriate. You can have it if you tell me where to send it.

It's caled Angelina's Baby Sister and it's about how her excitement tunrs to jelousy when the baby gets all the attention. With a happy ending of course. It would be good to see it go to a good home.

My naughty little sister starts with a chapter whenj the sister is born - talks about the excitement in the house and the baby crying a lot. But also about the moment whne the 2 sisters meet properly for the 1st time and the baby stops crying and looks closely at the big sis. A bonding moment.
The other chapters are lovely stories too. V nostalgic.

Katie Morag books are really lovely for about that age group. There is a wowling new baby called Liam and Katie Morag often finds herself sort of abandoned because of the teething baby (leaving her available for other adventures). The drawings are gorgeous too.

Thanks so much everyone. I told my daughter today that she would be a big sister in July and she was much more excited than I had thought. I've already got the Angelina book actually but I will order the others from the library and see which ones she likes. Thank you - much appreciated!

when I glance at your thread title I thought at first that it said 'books needed for 4 year old son to become big sister'

It'd certainly be interesting trying to find books for that!

also I liked a lot (because there was a lot about some of the potential downsides, lack of attention etc) Zaza's baby brother. maybe a bit simple for a 4 year old but my nearly 4 year old who became a big brother at 3 still asks to read it, it is excellent.

Have a look at this book I made one for my dd when her brother was born...she loved it.

"There's a house inside my muummy" is wonderful. It is written by the guy who used to write the Purple Ronnie cards so the narrative is funny too. My DDS 5 & 2 still love it to this day. Good luck!
