Human biology book for a 3 year old?

Last week, DS asked why we had bones. I said to keep us upright and stop being floppy. He asked why we had skin. I said to keep the blood in. He asked why we had blood. To deliver oxygen around the body.
I'm dreading his next questions, (why do we need oxygen, probably) since I only got a D in GCSE biology 18 years ago (THAT long ago?) so I wondered if anybody knows a good book with lots of pictures about the human body??
I don't want to misinform him, but I don't want to get too complicated, yet it has to hold his interest too.

Yesterday he asked why there was wind and rain, so if you also know about a good geography book I'd love to hear about that, too.
Thanks!

this is an excellent book and because it is pop up it is a lot of fun for the kids to use.

At 3 you will need to go through it with him, but it is fun, so it is no trial. There is also an excellent geography one.

Re the why do we need oxygen. Just to head him off at the pass.....

our food contains a store of energy. But because it is a particular type of chemical energy we can't use it until we change it. We need Oxygen to do this.

The same type of stored chemical energy is present in wood. To change that into heat energy when you burn it, you need oxygen. Without oxygen fires go out.

When we convert our food, heat energy is given off (it is why we are warm), other energy is used for us to move round etc. But we do it in tiny little steps, which is why we don't burst into flames!

Sugar+ oxygen -> Carbon dioxide and water with energy released This is respiration and the key to most life on earth

In the opposite direction....with energy going in (sunlight) it is photosynthesis.

Better than magic, science!

Try Usborne See Inside Science and also See Inside Your Body.

They're really informative, but also they're lift the flap books, so suitable for young children.

My 4 year old ds loves them (he's another big questioner!)

Usbourne books are normally good for this age.

I bought three of these to go in ds' stocking, and I was impressed with them. They are the Usborne 'beginner' information book range designed for about 4 - 7 years. He has 'Your Body', 'Dinosaurs' and 'Pirates'. The body one is simple enough to answer basic questions (he's 3.10) but complicated enough to keep him interested for a couple of years yet. He's already telling me he wants the living in space, planets and shark ones, so we might start a collection.... I got this one for ds1 (just turned 6) and ds2 (4), which was perfect for a young enquiring mind. It's very well written with excellent illustrations.
