First time mum to be

I really want my child to be a reader and love books
How many picture books do people buy, I keep seeing second hand ones and thinking how many is to many?

YY to starting reading to your child when they're a baby. They'll get used to the whole ritual of it, and they'll soak up the sound and rhythm of the language even when they don't understand a word!

My DC have had stories read to them every night for most of their childhoods. DD's now 9, and we take turns reading her book. Sometimes I'm exhausted at the end of a day and it's lovely to snuggle in bed together and have her read to me! (And she loves doing it, I'm not making her!).

Both DC love reading now.

As long as you make it fun and enjoyable, I don't see how you can fail to get a child into books if you read books regularly to them.

Apparently seeing you read helps encourage DC to want to read, too.
