Morning!
As the title suggests really - what age would you begin reading Harry Potter to your children?
I've seen the lovely hardback illustrated books in the shops and am tempted for my sons birthday for us to read together.
I know the latter books have quite dark themes but Philosophers Stone is relatively gentle.

@guardiansofthegalaxychocs

(obviously I’m meaning reading TO the child not expecting a 4year old to read it!)
It really isn't just about whether the child can read the words, it's about the concepts and the child's ability to really empathise and understand the characters and the plot.

There are plenty of other fun books about witches for 4 year olds.

Dd started reading them when she was 6, nearly 7. I was intending to get her to space them out as the later ones are more complex, longer and darker, but once they start and love them it's really hard to hold them back! So maybe I should have held off starting. Having said that, she happily devoured them all with no problem, and it was obvious from our chats about them that she understood them well. She and ds still love them and they are 16 and 13 now. They weren't allowed to watch the films until they'd read the books!

I / Stephen Fry have been reading the first book to my grandson from 4 months.
