Books and series for 9 year old DD

CaptainChannel · 10/10/2021 19:56

DD is almost 9, she's a massive reader. She's just about to come to the end of the Roman Mysteries series and has really enjoyed it. Other things she's loved over the last couple of years are everything by Roald Dahl & David Walliams, Famous 5/Malory Towers/St Clare's by Enid Blyton, Helen Moss Adventure Island Series , Lauren St. John Mysteries, Harry Potter series.
Anything else anyone can recommend based on the eclectic list above?

Upside Down magic - 8 books
Dr Noel Zone Danger is Everywhere - 3 books
Famous Five - 21 books
Dork Diaries - not sure what these are like but saw them in bookshop yesterday in the 9+ age group.

Nondescriptname · 10/10/2021 20:00

At that age, my DD loved the Worst Witch books.

My DD who loved Roman Mysteries is currently reading the Witch Wars series.

She is also waiting for her sister to finish The Explorer by Katherine Randall?

She's done famous 5 but the upside down magic ones look great - I've never heard of them. Thank you

DS age 9 is currently enjoying a series of unfortunate events

Curioushorse · 10/10/2021 20:09

She's probably ready for the 'Murder Most Unladylike' series? Or MG Leonard's murder on trains series? Both extremely popular in Years 5/6/7.

Thegirlhasnamechanged · 10/10/2021 20:09

The Nevermoor books are good. My niece really enjoyed the How to Train your dragon series at that age too

Topbird29 · 10/10/2021 20:11

My ds is 9 and he devoured the wizards of once books. Written by same author as how to train your dragon - which he is now working through. So glad he moved on from beast quest!!

I was obsessed with Jacqueline Wilson at that age...read a few of her new ones recently that I bought for my SDs and she's still as good as she was 25 years ago!

DD who has read much the same stuff also enjoyed the Scarlet and Ivy series, the Robin Stevens series murder most unladylike, and the trapdoor mysteries. She is a massive Helen Moss and Enid Blyton fan having reread many of both of their books!

Afolnerd · 10/10/2021 20:14

The Nataibal mystery series by David Schutte. There are 8 books in the series.
They aren’t well known and you might need to get them second hand from abes books or similar.
I read them over and over as a child and my dd8 is currently loving them as much as I did.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 10/10/2021 20:18

Seconding Katherine Rundell - my daughter’s favourite book of the moment is Rooftoppers

Jayneisagirlsname · 10/10/2021 20:19

The Malamander has just gone down well with my 10 year old dd

ILiveInSalemsLot · 10/10/2021 21:00

Dd (8) has become totally obsessed Warrior cat series. There are some deaths so depends how sensitive your dd is if it’s suitable or not.

BlueChampagne · 11/10/2021 12:53

Riddle of the Runes
Witchworld by Emma Fischel
Wolves of Willoughby Chase
Lady Grace Mysteries

BlueChampagne · 11/10/2021 12:53

Also Archie Greene series
Anne of Green Gables?

Starlight39 · 11/10/2021 13:00

Seconding the wizards of once series. I read them with my ds and we both loved them!

The Roman Mysteries are pretty gruesome so I think she would be okay! Thanks for the recommendation

@Afolnerd Nice to see someone else recommending them. Ds loved those too. He sells them on his website David Schutte

He autographed them for my ds and replied to an email from him. Seems a really lovely chap.

But I did have to have ds speaking their special language for a bit. It took a bit of concentration from me!
