its been a long time coming, but dd1 has finally 'clicked' with her reading and is now wanting to read mroe books by herself. she is attempting the first harry potter book, but is finding it a bit long.

would love to get her some good books t read, but not ones that are too young or old. i didnt start enjoying reading untill i was 9 and lived on enid blyton books.

and not those awful rainbow magic or whatever books they are called.

A Series of Unfortunate Events (maybe)
The Spiderwick Chronicles
The Secret Seven
The Animal Ark (boring and formulaic, but my dd loved them!)
The Glitter Girls

The Worst Witch ... with Mildred Hubble.

mymatemarmite · 24/11/2007 23:16

My eldest 2 DDs read Enid Blyton - they both really enjoy them!

Agree with the worst witch (had forgotten about that one) must show it to DD3!

Misdee · 24/11/2007 23:17

do you think some roald dahl stuff is ok?

i love some childrens books, and cant wait till dd1 really starts getting into some of the ones i read as a child.

we were at the school book fayre earlier in the term and i started chatting to her about oen of my favourite books' goodnight mister tom', i dont know whether she thought i was a crazy mum or not lol.

Have a look on bookpeople.co.uk they usually have some pretty good deals!

I have got DD2 the Jeremy Strong set (think it was 9.99 for 7 books) Also got DD3 the Horrid Henry activity books for 4.99! Bargain - and if you spend over £25 (I think) its free P&P

George's Marvelous medicine is actually quite short and quite simple =- while still being fabulous!

mymatemarmite · 24/11/2007 23:21

DD7 loves Roald Dahl, but doesn't like reading them herself! Loves them being read to her. Also on that web site I have just given you, they do all Roald Dahl stories on CD for a very reasonable price! (got one for my DD last year!)

How about a couple of the shorter Phillip Pullman ones? The Firework Maker's Daughter is particular good.

Misdee · 24/11/2007 23:23

dh did a bookpeople order the other week, but am unsure if he got anything for dd1. i know he got some dora and charlie and lola books for dd2 and dd3. but he may have added some horrid henry books for dd1, will have to check in the morning before i order some more.
