My little one is 3 and a half and I'm looking to update his book shelf as we still have a lot of baby type books!
Want to keep bedtime reading interesting and fun.
What are your little ones fav story books, or any must haves?

Thanks 😊

I buy a new mr men/ little miss book from the £shop most weeks my 3 year old dd loves them. There not the little classic mr men but little adventures they take. Also Elmer is a favourite of hers too

NannyR · 29/03/2021 20:20

Any of the Julia Donaldson ones - she really loves Charlie Cooks Favourite Book, The snail and the whale and Tabby Mctat. Other favourites are The tiger who came to tea, Peace at last, the Alfie series of books and the Supertato books.

When my 12yo ds was that age his favourite was a book called Qpootle 5. It's pretty funny. They made a cartoon of it too.

Mincepiesallyearround · 29/03/2021 20:40

Many of the above and also Michael rosen’s a great big cuddle - it’s poems but brilliant. Things like Daisy eat your peas and never use a knife and fork, can’t remember who they’re by maybe Nick sharatt?

Motherofmonsters · 29/03/2021 20:42

I've been reading funny bones at least three times a week for the last 18months, I don't actually have to read the words anymore

bluechameleon · 29/03/2021 22:12

My 3 year old is currently enjoying When Grandad Was a Penguin, You Choose in Space, Last Bus to Market Street, The Snowy Day, the Supertato series, and various non-fiction Usborne books (What is a virus? is a frequent request).

GreatestSh0wUnicorn · 29/03/2021 22:35

My big shouting day
Supermarket zoo and others in that series

WhiskyIrnBru · 29/03/2021 22:49

Usbourne peep inside the garden/castle/zoo etc
Funnybones

evtheria · 29/03/2021 22:55
  • Dinosaurs in the supermarket
  • You can’t take an elephant on the bus
  • Where the wild things are
  • What do grownups do all day?
And every Julia Donaldson book
Notlostjustexploring · 29/03/2021 22:58

The octonaut books are a hit at the moment as well.

Fivefootoffun · 29/03/2021 23:00

Cam2020 · 29/03/2021 23:08

Another vote for any of the JD books (currently stuck on The Snail and the Whale, and What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside), Funnybones, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, 10 Minutes to Bed Little (all of them), Mini Monsters, Can I Play? There's a Superhero in your Book, You Choose.

So many books!!

Wowcherarestalkingme · 29/03/2021 23:12

Any of the Alfie series or Dogger.
Julia Donaldson
The Large Family
The tiger who came to tea
And just started to like fairy tales particular : little pigs, jack and the beanstalk and the magic porridge pot.

Neighneigh · 29/03/2021 23:13

Our library has been doing book bundles over lockdown, you just ring them up, they ask about the child and you collect your suprise lucky dip! Through this we have discovered a book called The Toucan Brothers which our 4yo finds hysterical.

Library aside we love Zog, and a book about the history of Lego...

gingerbiscuits1 · 30/03/2021 06:49

Thanks all!

And thanks for reminding me about funny bones, I used to love that when I was little so will definitely be getting that one Grin

The ‘ten little XXX’ series
Oi frog etc
Julia Donaldson
The Dinosaur that Pooped the Past series
Usborne lift the flap books, especially the big book of trains
Thomas the Tank Engine

LysistrataVickers · 30/03/2021 06:53

All the Julia Donaldson ones and Mr Men are popular here. My 4.5 year old is currently really into the polar express despite the time of year!

SmednotaSmoo · 30/03/2021 06:53

Fast and Furry Racers (it’s really good to read aloud).

Anything by Peter Bently (but start with The Great Dog Bottom Swap).

(Do not enter) The Monster Zoo

Alfie and Percy the Parkkeeper series

Jez Albrough - some dogs do, Six Little Chicks, Gobble Gobble Moo Moo Tractor Book.

Usborne used to do a box of 20 fairy tales which we got years ago, which have repeatedly been re-read.

LysistrataVickers · 30/03/2021 06:54

Oh yes and Oi Frog (I think there are 3 or 4 of those books). They're good.

Sorry me again keep thinking of more, both my boys like Enid Blytons books about the Faraway Tree. I initially got them for me because I loved them as a child but the boys also love them.

LysistrataVickers · 30/03/2021 06:56

@NinePremium

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In fact, most of the Roald Dahl books.

Don’t underestimate their ability to enjoy chapter books at this age.

Completely agree!
