Looking for recommendations for books to read with an 18 month old. She enjoys the that's not my... Series but I'm looking for something with slightly more of a plot.

My 15 month old loves lift the flap books- Dear Zoo, Oh Dear, Noisy Farm, Where's Spot. They're a great next step from feely books to more of a storyline.

Her absolute favourite at the moment though is 'A Squash and a Squeeze'. Wants it read multiple times a day. But she also reaches a lot for 'I want my hat back'

Some that mine loves:

Dear Zoo
We're going on a bear hunt
Where the wild things are
Peepo
10 little dinosaurs
The tiger who came to tea
Postman bear
Guess how much I love you
I love my daddy

Mine loved the ones that made noises at that age. We have some Julia Donaldson with sounds and some of the Apple Tree Farm ones too.

Oi Frog and others in the series
Where’s Mr Lion?

Dramstam · 11/02/2021 05:37

Peepo
5 minutes peace
Dear zoo
Posy and pip books
Postman bear
Monkey puzzle
Each, peach, pear, plum
Spot books with flaps
Rabbit takes a nap

Ah yes the oi frog ones were a hit with mine at that age . Going on a bear hunt is great too for any age.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have ordered a few to read with her 🙂

Enjoy. Bedtime cuddles with stories are the best Smile And I sympathise with That's Not My... fatigue. My DD is currently OBSESSED with That's Not My Bus, may have accidentally 'lost' it today...

When my DD was a like older she became obsessed with You Choose and that book had to go on an occasional little holiday.

What The Oak Tree Sees is so lovely and good for all those walks we're going on at the moment

The Book With No Pictures, by BJ Novak, is a good one - it makes you say funny things like blorp and 'boo boo butt'. Press Here by Herve Tullet is good too: it's 'interactive' in that the kids press the spots on the pages.

Those aren't really stories, though, more fun bedtime activities. Story-wise, we got a lot out of Maisy Mouse at that age. Goodnight Maisy was a stalwart.
