Best book for a 6 month old — Peace At Last or Peepo?

I'm getting three board books for a friend's baby, who is nearly 6 months old. I've already decided on Hairy Maclary and Where's Spot?, but I'm not sure what to get for the third, out of Peace At Last and Peepo. I realise a 6 month old will not be able to appreciate these as much as a slightly older child, but I know my baby niece enjoys being read to, even if it's just about hearing her parents' voices, and of course they can be grown into. What do you think?

Either. Babies need to be read to. The more books the better and regularly. Don’t overthink it.

My second daughters favourite book is Peepo though she didn't get into it until after 1. Her other favourite is each, peach, pear, plum which was also dd1s favourite as a baby

We don't have the other book

My DD is completely obsessed with Peepo at the moment - she's 18 months. It isn't too bad to read over and over as an adult because the pictures are so detailed. I'm still spotting new things in there and I read it with DS as well, as well as it being one of my childhood favourites!

Peepo (or each peach pear plum) - the cadence & rhythm is amazing and they are top of the list from my babyhood! I used to be able to recite them both by heart... and my mum died when DD was only 4 months old so I loved ‘hearing’ her voice reading it to me when I read it to DD.
Another amazing recommendation is The Elephant and the Bad Baby, for similar qualities of rhythm, cadence & repetition which doesn’t wear thin.

Another vote for Peepo - and all the Ahlberg books! Each Peach Pear Plum is a must-have. The Elephant and the Bad Baby is a great suggestion too...a charming, gorgeous book.

Another Each Peach Pear Plum from me.

Or Dear Zoo

Or Hungy Caterpillar.

I would say Peepo out of those choices but it's for an older toddler.

Agree with That's not my... and the Hungry Caterpillar (board book version). I really like Hug by Jez Alborough too. Or We're Going on a Bear Hunt - to be read the way Michael Rosen does it on you tube!

fruitpastille · 20/01/2021 10:37

We've been given a few personalised books over the years and I'm yet to read a good one!

birdglasspen · 01/02/2021 21:35

Goodnight moon is a classic, it's a nice relaxing one for bedtime, my son will still listen in at 3 and make sweet observations about what's happening in the pictures, he loved it as a young baby too.

birdglasspen · 01/02/2021 21:35

Oh and also Dear Zoo is a good one!

DelurkingAJ · 01/02/2021 21:39

Of the two I’d go for Peace at Last. We were given two copies of Peepo for DS1 so I just think they’re more likely to have it!

saraclara · 01/02/2021 21:43

'Brown Bear Brown Bear, What do you see?' For its rhythm, its repetition, the bold simple pictures, and the anticipation when you're about to turn the page.

Big Hugs, Little Hugs. by Felicia Bond. Board Book

TheKeatingFive · 02/02/2021 13:18

I agree that it doesn't really matter, its the fact of being read to at that age.

But having said that, I'd have Peepo above Peace At Last. And Dear Zoo is particularly good for that age because of the flaps.

Also check out anything by Sandra Boynton. She's like the modern day queen of baby books. I can still recite the whole of Moo, Baa, LaLaLa.

TheKeatingFive · 02/02/2021 13:20

Oh and there is some witchcraft in Goodnight Moon. It settled my two like no other book.

Despite the hideous interior designs.

Monkey and Me
Orange Pear Apple Bear

Both by Emily Gravett

Lovely repetitive, simple lyrical words fir a baby to enjoy. I loved reading them too.
